Invisible Dog Fence recommendations?

If you already have a GPS collar to know where the dog is, why not get a training collar instead of fencing??? I have tons of trees and rocks on my place, so invisible fence was not a possibility. I looked into the GPS systems a few years ago, but the reviews were horrible. They had some that had a large antennae sticking out! I have training collars for my dogs. I believe they have them for up to 2 mile ranges. I can press a button and they get a tone or vibration which they know means they are being called. If they don't respond they can get a shock.

I will have to look again into GPS is sounds like if you're happy with yours.

GPS tracking has been around for few years. But that you have to watch it. I don't think you are realistic with technology or what you have to work with. You are going to need a realistic solution.

i have the petsafe brand for the stubborn dogs..2 labs that would dig under or get thru any fence ever built. bought the controller and 2 collars and then I bought the next heavier gauge wire off amazon and put it on the btm wire of the barb wire fence all around 10 acres. I hung it with a staple just like the barb wire..clasfs will chew it and running It under the drive and where gates are is a real pita cuz its gotta be in pvc or something like that. once the dogs figured it out..i just walked em up to it and let em get zapped...even when the cows break the wire which don't happen much now with the heavier guage wire...they wont even get close to that boundry..as a matter of fact I opened up my hayfield to them by moving the wire and it took months for them to go in there only after my son teased em in with treats...

10acres is a lot more than your dog will ever use probly..mine don't use all of what they can. ..btw..if you take the collar and drag it real close to the wire it will work almost up to the broken piont at a very much lower power but it will help you track down the break in the wire...

Biggest reason not to do 100 acres: if there is a break, you have to walk about 2 miles to find it. Doesn't say where you live but if this is a deciduous forest, I'd park the heavy gauge wire on the ground near your barbed fence and let the leaves bury it.
I used 10 gauge stranded for mine and had a deer print plop right on the wire with no ill effects and this was before the leaf fall. Personally, I'd let the dog be happy roaming 5 acres even when I had the 110 acre lot.

I don't have any personal experience with this, but I've heard of dogs running straight though it (and then may have trouble coming back, even if they want to.)
We just use portable dog fence that allow allow you to set up a perimeter around your yard, home, or travel trailer for your pooch. My dogs love it! Perfect size and height for my dogs.
