That is about the ONLY thing I have heard it called. Wait that's not accurate, I have heard boondocking, but in my mind that is camping where there is no campground. Dry camping, out here, refers to no hookups. REAL "roughing it" :thumbsup:

I've heard it called Primitive Camping or finding a spot and calling it a day...

With the motor home about every 3 or 4 days we pulled into a camp ground... some were nice some were not... the primitive sites were the best... all the comforts of home and not a soul around...

One of the CG's specifically San Simeon, in CA where we fish, is state run, dry camping only and THEY PATROL REGURLARLY and tell you to shut it down if the generator is on too early or late. It does not matter if it's a quiet one or not.

My whole point is when we want to get up and out before generator hours begin, then she cannot use it. I have no desire to even consider a $400 blow dryer especially considering the short life span those things have.

I am not the least bit concerned if it suits anyone elses idea of camping, roughing it, or what ever you want to call it. If I had the money I would be driving a 45ft diesel pusher, but I don't, so I will make this as much like home as possible. My "roughing it" days are over. I roll my mobile condo where I want and that suits me just fine. Based on the number of sat dishes I see when out "camping" I am far from alone in that respect. I live very rural and sometime there are calamities at home and it's good to be able to see what is going on and if it affects me. We also have certain shows we like to watch too. My choice.

Looking back a page I thought you had made up your mind to go with the inverter and four batteries. I suggested a supplier of good quality cable and connectors. I should not have mentioned the $400 hair dryer as you missed the point I was making. I did not say you should buy the $400 dollar hair dryer. I have Directtv and an auto aiming dish on my camper for the last 15 years, everyone should do as they please is my thinking. If you want a 45' diesel pusher then go for it.

Lots of people view these threads, looking for information, experiences and opinions. Not all comments are aimed directly at you and or your specific circumstances.

I'll say this openly (not in a PM) because that was how I answered your earlier post.
I have to apologize. I came across way too snippy. It seems many of the threads I have started (not on this forum) looking for specific information, seem to turn into someone's opinion on whether I should do what I am doing, and it got old. Some guys get real nasty, so I got defensive. Again, I apologize.

It's just that when I started a thread elsewhere on the ride difference between spring paks for a 2500 truck vs a 3500, (because mine are sagging and need replacement) I get people telling me I have no idea what I am doing with airbags but I act like I know everything. ????? That's just one example as to how far off course they go and how some folks think I really WANT them to tell me how screwed up my idea is.

You talked about it not being "real camping", at least that's how I took it, and I saw red. Sorry.

Not a problem.

I simply meant that today you can camp almost anywhere you are allowed to park and have many amenities available to you. Edit to add, there are areas that are highly populated where you can not do this but in the southwest where I live it has not been a problem.

When I go to the lakes in my area I will rent a site with hook ups most of the time. I like to go by myself and always have my Siberian Husky dog with me. I use my pickup with truck camper and a small Boston whaler boat all are a perfect fit for my wants and needs. I can drop the camper and hitch up the boat to the truck for easy launching while my dog can sleep with the air on while I am out on the boat...Living in New Mexico the population density is very low (maybe 15 people/square mile) the lakes are for all practical purposes small and landlocked. We do not have as many regulations as California and once out of the larger cities no crowds of people for which I am grateful. That said I would not run a generator where it would bother anyone else.

I do have a 5th wheel but it is only used when guests are involved, since I don't have any friends I wonder why I have it. Both have the dishes installed and I can move the receiver between them as needed. While I could pull the boat behind the 5th wheel that is way to much trouble imo.

Yea not too many places like that in CA. But we don't always camp in CA either. But the majority of our stops are campgrounds with hookups, but every now and then....we get brave.
