Inverter question

Seems like you're well on the road to success.
Just curious, what inverter? I'm going to do an AIMS.
Same size, for the same reason.

If you wanted a 100 pg. discussion, head on over to the RV forums. Just hope that you have a 1-ton dually and flush your poop tank 100x every time you camp.

Post some pics when it's done. =)

Being that it will be in your 5th wheel , doubt you would have any issue's mounting it vertical . Your 5th wheel likely would never jolt the inverter like bouncing down a freeway with a 45,000 lb. load in the trailer does

You would though likely have issue's putting screws through the floor near the holding tanks  Taht could end in a smelly situation besides the wrath of the better half

Mine runs off 4 1100 amp semi batteries . Usually run the Aux. power unit if I run the microwave , but then shut it down if not needed for cooling or heating . Have sat for over 12 hours with t.v. and computer running off inverter and 12 volt r.v. reefer / freezer combo running directly from batteries via fuse without any issue's .

It will be mounted on a horizontal plane, flat against the wall, but on a vertical wall. Not sure about the bouncing. The CA freeways are horrible sometimes.

When you say 1100 amp you mean cranking amps, right? I have heard you should go by AH (or another one I can't remember) that tell how long a sustained level can be held.

1100 CCA batteries times four or at least times three is what is typically in a tractor trailer. Several times I have gotten trucks with only three batteries and have gotten the shop to add a fourth. Makes a big difference on being able to start the truck after using the inverter.

Not doubting that, just stating what they usually reference for inverter use. CCA's don't help me since the 5th wheel will never have to start :)

Battery chemistry/science/construction varies with intended purpose. The ratings somewhat correspond with that.

Exactly, and a semi truck battery is what your diesel powered F350 (or Chevy/Dodge) will usually have a smaller version of, lol. Not as big as a D8 Cat battery, but a pair might be.
My 2000 watt inverter is continously rated at that, made at one time by Exide battery Company, and has capabilities of being run backwards. Meaning you can plug it in and it will act as a battery charger (30 amp). Kind of neat.

My truck is either a 140 or 150amp alternator, but the inverter is in the 5th wheel. It will have 4 batteries in it, with at least 400ah of power. The inverter is rated 2000/4000 so continuous rating of 2K, but the highest pull will be the wife's hair drier (1875 on high) and only for a few 3-5 min bursts. Honestly have not even looked at microwave rating, since it's not a target appliance for this install. Most of the usage will be for the TV and Sat dish type of stuff.

Are you sure the hair dryer is rated for 1875 watts? I have never seen a household appliance including electric heaters with over a 1500 watt rating. If it is 1375 watts that would be a heavy duty hair dryer.
