Adam KUDZU is GREAT! I want some of that stuff! if you've got it and dont raise goats, well thats the problem: Get some GOATS!!!! When I was clearing my family's land I'd cut rows through the yaupon (Ilex vomitoria, evil stuff!!) then come behind and throw up some t-posts and field fence and let the Gate Crasher Crew (my herd!) come in and wreak unholy havoc. Same concept applies with kudzu. fence in a spot and over graze it. The goats turn the kudzu into more goats, you sell the excess. Kudzu is an excellent source of protein for the goats so it keeps them quite healthy. Kudzu (Pueraria lobata) is people food!!!! and its good for alcoholics because the root and floral nectar causes them have a decreased desire to drink alcohol. If people could harness the power of that plant efficiently we could feed the would with no problems. (I wonder what the yield per acre of kudzu root converted to flour would be)

You can have all of my Kudzu! I do not drink alcohol so that's just one more reason the stuffs useless to me. I cannot plant pines were the Kudzu is.

So, if I fence off 2 acres of Kudzu how many goats would would you recommend to eliminate the 2 acres of kudzu? How much water do goats require? What about vet Bills? What variety of Goat do I get? How long would it take the goats to eliminate the KUDZU in 2 Spots?

You have me excited about this concept. I was going to have to spend 3 years out of pocket with some serious chemicals to kill this stuff then Burn it.


Can you recommend optimal fence type and height ect?

Ripping the Kudzu off my Disk was a two hour ordeal. That plant is tough and I had to use wire cutters to cut the stuff off. It looks like Giant Poison Ivy when it starts to come back in the Spring. I have noticed that the deer eat the tips of the green kudzu as it regenerates.

Wow! I have a lot to think about here. I am encouraged by your confidence; however, my limited to no experience in anything AG has me a bit concerned. I appreciate the links and have done some research and will continue to update you with what I find.
