I'm going to buy the Cannon EOS 20D for my main digital camera

I bought myself a Canon 20D and a 70-200 f/2.8L lens. I absolutely love it! The images this camera can take at 3200 ISO is amazing!

This is what came from B&H Photo last month.

Thanks gator, I'm glad to hear that you like the 20D. A relative was telling me how much he liked his Cannon EOS 1Ds Mark II, and telling me to get that camera. Well, I don't exactly need that nice of a digital camera! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Have you ever priced one of those?!

Fortunately he told me that he has a Cannon EOS 20D that he uses as "backup" that he likes almost as well. The 20D is not a cheap camera by any means, but compared to the 1Ds Mark II....let's just say I'm out of my league in camera there. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Have you ever used that camera or know about it?

Nope. Sorry for the late reply. Gatorboy sounds pretty happy, though! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Dargo, I'm an ex-photo junkie who used to love to develop his own stuff, I still have my big professional Nikon F2A camera bodies, but I think the last time I used one was on my honeymoon almost 20 years ago. What I have learned is that the best camera to have is one that you can actually carry around with you and consequently that is the kind you end up using. I've got a Canon S230 and a Canon S500, both are TINY little cameras, about the size of a pack of Marlboro cigarettes, optics and color rendition are very good. These cameras are the ones LIKELY to end up in a pocket and LIKELY to be used to snap pictures of my daughter playing soccer, hunting Easter eggs, or some other activity.

I think there is a place for bulky cameras, they are great for PLANNED events where you plan to lug them out for specific reasons.

But if you are in over your head with the Canon EOS type systems, consider a little high quality pocket digital. You'll probably find that you, or Mrs_Dargo acutally have it with you when a spontaneous shot can be taken.

I strongly agree! I bought a pocket size Canon A75 for a big trip last fall. Nearly all my memorable pictures were made in locations where it would have been inconvenient, rude, or in a few spots dangerous to show a full size camera.

How come no one attaches pictures to support their posts describing favorite cameras?

I would second the vote for Adorama. I haven't bought a camera from them, but I'm impressed with their customer service. I bought two pairs of binoculars from them, returned one pair. No return authorization required. I ordered a different pair as a replacement. I got two pairs of binos in two weeks.

They also identify if items are US or gray market items. Many of the lowest prices that you find on cameras tend to be gray market without a manufacturer's warranty. Be sure to ask if you deal with someone else.

The brown truck came today, found the camera at Best Buy, missed the Fuji rebate, but BB had a $50 rebate final cost was $282.49 plus tax, shipped free. I'm excited as we're planning on making the Rantoul Il. event on Aug 26,27,28 will get lots of shiny old iron pictures. I'll try to not lose this one. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
