I haven't looked at it yet, and while I'm quite handy with mechanical stuff, I've never worked specifically on a tractor. I'm looking for something to use a box blade with to help on my privately owned dirt road, I'd also like to mow about 4 acres of horse pasture during the rainy season.

Came across an add for an "International Cub Farm Tractor Lowboy Model #154", asking $1500. I'm told it runs good, but that's about all I know so far, other than the fact that the seller is in a hurry to unload it, he's going out of town soon.

I'd like to offer $1000, but I want to know what are big problems I need to check for first.

Thanks!

Those little Cubs are good for what they were intended for. Running that 60" mower in grass, with a weeks worth of growth, and pulling a 12" plow. Not bashing IH, 'cause I bleed IH red..., LOL...

For what you want to do with it, and don't want to spend a lot of money, I'd look for something in the 8N Ford, 600 Ford, TO-20, TO-30 Ferguson, 240 IH utility, something in the 20- 35 hp rating class. All easy to work on, and parts plentiful. All a good starter tractor... You can always trade up. Newer models with power steering, independant PTO, are well worth the money.

Just my opinion....

check for cracks at the steering box. I see plenty of them welded up there.

For the money they are a great tractor. Sure they never had power steering but for the weight at half an 8n who needed it. Are they perfect, no but they are thirty years old!!!
