I have read/heard in a couple different places about the international 4700 and 4900 trucks coming from the factory with a standard wheelbase and the purchaser just slides the rear end to where he wants and cuts off the over hanging frame rails? Is there any truth to this?

Also, is there a company around western pa that does up fitting? Like adding a sleeper or a flat bed to a truck? I have been looking for a crew cab, air ride, allision transmisiong with a dt466 for a gooseneck pulling truck and it seems like i can only ever find 2 of the 4 things I need to have. The crew cab is because its going to replace my one ton truck. The air ride is for the long trips and having a compressor on board! I am pretty sure I can find a truck with a flat bed, but I'm pretty sure I'll have to trade it in on a shorter one to be able to get the ball in front of the rear axle. I would def like to have the hitch professionally installed!

I like the western hauler style beds but most of those trucks are completely out of my price range!

short version...
Did the international 4700/4900 come from the factory with one frame length with the idea of moving the axle to where you wanted it and cut off the overhanging frame?

I'm pretty sure they do. There's not much to the frames so I'm sure any truck shop could move the axle where you need it and take care of the drive shaft. But it sounds like what you want is a CXT.

A cxt would be perfect, except I dont have 50k to put towards one. I was thinking of a 4900/4700 and moving the axle myself and having a shop custom cut the driveshaft for me.

Man, where were you when I was selling mine a few years ago? :) When I ordered my 4400 in '06, you told them what wheelbase, cab to axle, (although the WB and CA go hand in hand depending on the cab you chose), and how much frame length behind the axle you wanted, and that's what you got.
On the 4400/4700/4900 size trucks the hitch doesn't have to be in front of the axle, on mine it was about 3 ft behind the axle and I never had a problem. (I was pulling a 18k 40ft fifth wheel) So I wouldn't worry about the placement of the ball.

Well, I dont know if you would have been interested. Im hoping to trade my current truck on it, or sell mine outright to put some cash down. Thats pretty good news about the ball placement though! I was pretty much going off of the rule for ball placement on a pickup. Right now I only have a 14.5k GN but once the bigger truck comes along, I'm pretty sure im going to be upgrading that as well. My wife is also thinking about going to a 6 horse gn so I am very leary about getting to far behind the axle. Its also nice to not have a land yacht turning radius lol Thanks for the reply though!
