International 384 gear cover removal

The gears are locked and i need to remove the top cover of the box. Has anyone ever done this and could they tell me what to do. Or maybe someone has a manual and could look it up for me.

PM GeneP. He's got a 385 that should be same procedure. I have the book at home, but I'm in Nigeria now. I'll be home in a few days if you get no results.

I sent you a pm, I think you only need to remove the shift lever to realign the shift rails. If you do have to pull the top, get back to me. The hydraulic section has to be raised to get the trans top off, per the I&T manual.

The 384 is a completely different transmission from the 385, but I have a 354 with the same transmission as the 384.

I too am totally unfamiliar with that series of tractors, but on my older IH's all one needs to do is pull the shifter, be able to rock the tractor so it's not binding, and use a big screwdriver to move the rails.
