Interesting sliding axles tilt trailer

Its for sale because it doesnt work.... When tilted, half of the weight is sitting on the street, and the other half is on the sliders above the axles. You need a big bold tow vehicle to pull the deck on top of the wheels.

Landoll has pioneered and mastered the sliding axle tilt trailer market. Unfortunately it is only available for large truck applications. This one is too short to be very practical....and does not achieve the low load angle that is the whole intended concept to begin with....

I borrowed a car hauler that worked that way, but it was much lower to the ground and the wheels didn't end up that far forward when it was tilted. It worked very well and was easy to use.

personally used a slideing axle that was a car transport. but it wasnt a deck over.

worked great, had a nice low loading angle and needed no ramps. i was a slick setup for the race car that was hauled on it.

The company i work for, used to do similar conversions to Unimogs and other small 4wd trucks (rwd axle was removed so the truck had to have a front wheel drive axle)
In this design the wheels werent extendible from under the bed, but the truck was cut off behind the cab and a U frame was attached to it: the wheels were placed underneath that U frame, so when the air suspension was lowered you could drive under a rail of a container, and when lifting the suspension you could pick up that container.
There was also a variant with a flat floor, very useful to load forklifts, and scissor manlifts because of the low ground clearance.

I guess this is an early Ruthmann conversion from Germany, they still make them this way: http://www.ruthmann.de/main.php?target=funktion_diagonal&lang=en

There are also other variants, without the extendible width axle (more durable) RUTHMANN: Steiger - Cargoloader - Versalift - Service
Off course, the cheapest versions are based on a lightweight front wheel drive van, like a Ford Transit, VW Transporter, Peugeot Boxer. When going heavier, you need a 4wd truck as a base for this conversion which makes the whole deal a lot more expensive.

Perhaps someone is interested in a ruthmann rear end behind an F350 or 3500 ??

Renze,
thanks for the added details. I have also seen similar ROVER conversions in pictures. I don't remember, but don't think the rear wheels spread out on the ROVER's. I think ( both spreading and NON spreading wheels) are a fascinating design, The slope of the deck is reduced dramatically. It would be neat to crawl around the MOG ( or others) to see it up close. It would be fun reading to find any detailed operating guide and/or parts illustrations manuals.

An F350 or 3500 Ruthmann would be interesting sight in the States !
