interactive radar weather map

A lot of you may know this already but at weather.com there is a interactive weather map.

After a few years of bad drought I got used to looking at the dopler radar from a tv station, for the area around my weekend place. It would look on the radar like it was raining in that area but when I would get there and there would be nothing in the rain guage. There had been no rain.

At the weather channel site you can look at the radar all across the u.s., zoom in on your area, kinda zoom through the clouds, find your house, and I guess know if it is raining there. It doesn't show rain under the clouds, just a google maps view. As you zoom back out, you can see what color clouds are over your place. I had yellow over mine which means a decent rain.

I'll be surprized if there is no rain in the guage this time. I thought it was pretty cool.

Thanks for the tip. I had a really minor system move thru last eve. It showed a very light green blob maybe a mile in diameter overhead ... during which time it sprinkled a bit then was dry. There was a much much larger thing about 5 miles away but it showed it blowing north, just missing me ... and I got no sprinkles. Seemed to be spot on.

I love/hate it. Even with DSL it takes quite a while to load completely, so that annoys me to no end so I usually end up use the classic radar. It is nice, however, in that you can zoom in & really get a good idea of what's getting rained on & what's not.

I like www.accuweather.com and purchased a subscription service, as I still have some allegiance to my old alma mater PSU (I took a lot of meteorology courses there; football team not as good as it used to be before the Big10 and I still like Joe Pa.). There is also www.intellicast.com as well as NOAA for your area. I have to admit that I am a certified weather geek. Jay
