Guys I have a yanmar 1500(red) i got a few days ago that i bought from a friend. The clutch is stuck on it. I split it in half and the clutch, throw out bearing, and pressure plate were shot. I installed new of all three of those. Now I am having the same problem. It has been a really long time since I have messed with clutches. Is there a spring that is suppose to pull the throw out bearing back? Mine does not have one but the diagram on Hoye Tractors shows a spring. Could this cause the clutch to stay engaged if that spring is missing? Also can I get to the throw out bearing through the steering column? Thanks.

Yes, there should be two springs attached to the T/O carrier bearing attached to the 'ears' and to the pins inside the bell housing case.

You should be able to remove the pitman arm nut, remove the drag link and slide the steering box, shaft and assembly up enough to visually inspect the input shaft. If there are NO springs OR the housing pins are broken/missing, you can drill the case and add two 1/4" x 20 bolts through the case. This will provide the new anchor points for replacement springs.

That missing spring has nothing to do with disengaging your clutch. The clutch is disengaged positively, and must be in correct adjustment to do so. The spring only restores the pedal the final 1/2"-3/4".

Are you sure you have the "red" style? The green style has the spring on the outside of the bellhousing instead of on the throw out bearing carrier. I dont think you can use a "red" carrier in a "green" tractor. Is your bellhousing cast or sheet metal?

I do have the red style. There was no spring when I took it apart, people told me there was suppose to be a spring thats why I was curious because mine did not have one. I did get the clutch fixed it was out of adjustment so it is up and running now.

Aaron I looked at the diagram for the green style and that is like mine but the tractor is red, I dont know how it has the green style clutch in it:confused:. I am this things probably 4th owner so who knows. It is working good now though even with the other style clutch. I did have problems with the throw out bearing carrier it would not fit the forks on the clutch linkage inside so I put it on a lathe and took of .0050 and it fits perfect now. Maybe this is why I had trouble getting it to fit. Seems to be working good now though.
