I read a thread that inspired me to this a few days ago and had some free time today so.... I'm clearing woods with the tractor and am really sick of not having a location for my chains and chainsaw on the tractor. When the bucket is on its can obviously use that but the chainsaw takes a beating over the bumps and many times I head for the clearing sight with the forks on the front....so chainsaw sits precariously in my lap and my long chains are coiled at my feet dangerously close to blocking the HST pedal. I just really needed a good secure space for all this so here is my solution. uploadfromtaptalk1456100205423.jpg
I picked up a very heavy duty tote from Home Depot for around $20. Cleared the rail at the back of the small factory tool box and the warning sign holder. Then I reinforced the bottom of said tote with some galvanized flat stock as I knew it wouldn't be centered on the support rail and would be holding several heavy chains. Finally I bought 6 bolts a half inch longer than the factory spec and reused all the factory bolt locations. 2 for the rear remote holder, 2 for the old tool box locations, and 2 for the warning sign carrier. This way everything can very easily go back to stock and I didn't have to drill anything. Although I did end up drilling 2 holes in the left fender where I decided to relocate the small factory tool box. There is now a ton of room for long hauls into the woods. I can fit 2 20 foot chains, the chainsaw, feel and bar oil, a hammer and crescent wrench all in it for the trip.
3 downsides for anyone else considering this.
1 it limits vision to the rear while hooking up 3 point attachments
2 it is a little too tall for me to fold the ROPS all the way down ( 90 degrees is just as good IMHO )
3 where I mounted mine I can't get the seat all the way back in the last two catches ( no big deal I ride with mine all the way foreward).
Over all I'm much happier with the extra carrying capacity of the tractor. Made my life much, much easier. A few more pics

Just a thought, if you cut a slot in the back right corner of the box you may be able to put your saw blade thru that slot and allow the saw to drop down into the box, and the blade may stick out on an angle just behind the rear lamp/guard. Cut the slot only in the middle of the corner so the box retains it's rigidity.

That's a good idea.

Looks good. Need to do the same to mine.

You could of course use the saw to do the job, but maybe an angle grinder will be safer!

I just used it a good bit tonight. I ran everything pretty hard. I didn't strap the saw or anything in....just layed the saw in on top the other stuff. Knocked young trees down and rooted them with the bucket, also climbed a few older trees with the front end to put pressure on them the way I wanted them to drop. Anyways, hard use and absolutely no straps or bungee and everything stayed put inside the box. Works fantastic. My next big project is installing a barbed wire fence, posts and all, in a very hilly part of West Virginia. May use a few bungee their lol.

What part of WV? I have a very hilly 117 ac of WV on the mason-Dixon line...

Nice work on your box... I'm with you on the 'don't drill holes' thing, everything I've done to mine uses all factory provided holes or mounting points.

I like your box. Boxes like that work good. Yours is a nice big one. I used a milk crate for years. I was never smart enough to put a slot in it though. That sounds like a pretty smart suggestion 100 td.

We have land in Wetzel county. Base of the northern pan handle. Also family has land around the Grafton area. That's where I'll be fencing.

Nice job on creating something that works for you!!!!

Awhile back there was a thread on here concerning "what do you carry on your tractor". It turned into quite a discussion with some GREAT ideas!!!!! Of course there were those that said you shouldn't carry anything, go back and get it if you need it......

Everything I carry on my tractor I use. Might not use it today. But I'll need it tomorrow. :)

I like a scabbard for the saw because the box is always full of other stuff. :)

Nice!
I thought about a scabbard...still am. But cost was an issue and most the ones I looked at were for 4 wheelers and started around 70 bucks. I might go that route if I find a less expensive one.

Yeah, I'd struggle paying $70 for a scabbard. I built mine. In the scheme of things though, it's something you'll never wear out so it will last your lifetime and your kid's lifetime if chainsaws are still around!!! :)

You can make a scabbard out of plywood pretty cheaply and bolt it to your box. I have two built into my box.

I looked into 100 td's idea which was a very good one. The way the box sets though wouldn't give me enough clearance for the tail light. I think I'm going to make a scabbard and put it somewhere. That way I can get a full gas can and a gallon of bar oil in the box with the chains, tools etc.

I'm in Wetzel County also... about 4 miles inland from the Ohio River.

$70 for a saw scabbard? No thanks. I made mine with plywood scraps I had, and drywall screws. The u-bolts to fasten to the ROPS cost $5.

I recently relocated it to the front post of my ROPS cage, had to trim it a bit to clear everything.

Those are all great ideals, but on my tractor, Case DX33, space is at a premium. And like the OP said, everything gets a beating in the FEL. I purchased a CarryAll from TSC and currently in the process of building a box on a pallet to carry my chainsaw , weed eater, fuel, oil and other clearing tools I need to work. Also, I am mounting my 50 gallon sprayer on another pallet. Another use I have for it so far is 55 gallon drums filled with water on pallets to take to field for the horses. Only had it a couple of months, warm weather has just arrived, I am hoping to come up with plenty more uses for it.

PS I would like to thank everyone for all the great ideals and advice I have read on this forum. I am very new to the tractor life, 9 months, I wished I could have afforded to do it when I was young and able. haha
