Well I recently found this site and read every post in the archives. I found many things I need to build. I suppose the 2 most common seem to be a boom pole and trailer hitch.
I just happened to decide to build them too. I figured I was being original, but like they say - no matter what you like to, there are others like you online. haha. My wife is starting to wonder if I will lose my job. I am a fabricator by trade so I am like a kid in a candy store. Steel for free as long as I get my work done. My boss is very understanding so I don't have to worry.
So let me show my home mades....
This is my boom and utility platform with out a top yet.

Oh and two of my Border Collies,

Here are the platform mounts. The center doubles as a reese hitch. The platform supports are two inch tubing just like a trailer hitch with one and one half angle on 2 sides, there are three of them. I am planning on attaching some plywood to it for the platform itself.

I'm with you farmerbud....It's like being in a candy store seeing what all these talented people come up with. I've nearly run my printer out of ink making pictures of people's projects here. I put them away in my dream file. Unfortunately , I am a woodworker, with little or now metal working skills....but hope to change that sometime. Great job on your project. I used to work near my company's Fab shop...and was always amazed at the things these guys made ...."government" projects we called them.

Ok this is the top I did it like a reese hitch too. I figured the boom can be used in the bottom or the top this way. I pie sectioned the tube on the boom then laid it back twice so that the tube is still all one piece on the bottom. That's the V shaped weld you see. I did most of this without a welding shield /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif My boss doesn't care, but I still have to be discreet...

A welding shield or helmet is what we wear to protect our eyes so we can watch the bead. I am typing this thinking you may have been joking?

FarmerBud aren't you worried about UV damage to your eyes? I would be, I wear a helmet whenever I stick weld.
