Was working on the lift arms when my son says to me " hey dad looks like it used to be gold". Some of the grey paint has chipped away on the tire side of the fenders, so im thinking wow they must have been replaced with a set off a demonstrator (both fenders gold underneith) So i tell him about it and he starts looking for more gold paint. Its currently red, was a state machine before that so it was orange. Now he finds gold paint near the shifter, on the front end, a spot the size of a 1/2 dollar in a corner of the engine block. Few places on the frame, few more on the engine. Its all over the place if your looking for it. Is it possible it could be one of the demonstrators? I cant read the serial number but my son thinks it might be 66263, or something close to it. I think someone just painted it that way at one piont in its life.

I think the SN's are in about the correct place for it. You can search for Tony Jacobs on ytmag.com and get his phone #. He is a whiz on these tractors.
I noticed on your sig the '59 871 and also the HD Industrial. Those are two tractors and not one, right?

before you do any kind of modications to that old tractor check with someone who restores old ford tractors they had some that were painted gold as a promotion from the factory saw one last year at a show here in Pa. and the factory people there at the time said they were worth a lot of $$$ restored.
john_bud, its the same one, according to a sales brochure i bought off e-bay it shows/lists an industrail version 1871, with the heavy duty front axle and a ford super duty fel, gas, red and grey. Hence the "HD Industrail" in my signature. Maybe it should say "1871"?

He also knows more about them than anyone else I've stumbled across.
Also, Tony owns the remains of the Elenco Company that made 4x4 systems for the old ford tractors. Pretty cool, but spendy.
The 1801 tractors were red and buff the later 4040's and 4140's were buff and blue. I did Yellow and blue for mine and painted the nose like the 1801's, which I like better than the correct solid color.
Larry Loy has a lot of these too. His are correctly painted as the factory did them. (Very nice, too!)
I haven't found any pic's of gold demonstrator HD Industrials. I would "guess" they were all gold!

Wow those tractors are incredible!! You could eat off them, you/they must have spent a ton of time getting them to look like that!! I sent an e-mail to Tony Jacobs, hopefully he will respond. I finally took paint remover to it to get the actual serial number, my son was almost on the money, off by one hundered. Its stamped 1871 with 66163 under it. Thanks for the info john_bud, you guys are great!!
Well, mines ok, but Larry's are just gorgeous. I did all the work on mine, except for machine shop stuff. It came out ok, but has some nagging issues. See the parts & repair section.... Don't know if Larry does his own restorations or not, but who ever does them really knows how to do it!

I recently picked up a 881 Gold Demo a few months ago.
I talked to Tony Jacbos via email and phone and was great to talk to. He had me check all of the serial numbers on my tractor and he knew exactly were they all were and what they all meant.
Mine is still in the state of restoration. It also still has it's original paint. Here are a few pics from when I picked her up.
It has the wrong nose and seat for a 881. I found a new seat and grill from a boneyard tractor, I still need the bottom piece that wraps around the sides and front grill.
