Hello all.

I bought an older Branson 4720H which I believe is a 2007 model. The tractor smokes a lot. Blue smoke but also white. The fellow at the shop I purchased it from (not a Branson dealer) sold it to me as is and thought it might need rings. In going through the tractor, I decided to replace all filters, etc first. It starts a bit hard but runs very good in my opinion. Still smokes a bit when hot. Looks like it might not have been maintained very well. It has 2,900 hours.

In purchasing the filters, etc at the Branson dealership the owner said that I should throughly check the injectors. I asked him if it was possible for it to be injectors as I have always assumed that blue smoke was from bad rings or valve seats. He said he has seen several tractors do what I have described and it turned out to be injectors.

So here I am and in replacing the fuel filter I found NO FILTER!! I cannot believe this. Anyway I have removed the injectors and purchased a injector tester. Does anyone know what pressure the injectors are supposed to pop at? The engine is a Kukje A2300N2-H. Licensed by Cummins in Korea.

Any suggestions will be helpful.

Hello Nelson,

Accordingly to the service manual for the older 20 series, the injection pressure is Injection Pressure 14710 kPa [2133.5 psi / 150kgf/cm^2]

If you don't have the service manual yet, check the pinned thread on the Branson section. There is a list of all the manuals, the one for your tractor is named: 10-20 Series Service Manual.

That quite alarming that for some reason the fuel filter was removed.

Thanks. I will pick one up. Once the tester arrives I will check out the injectors. I also wonder if the diameter of the cylinders and pistons are the same with and without the sleeved blocks.

Well, I got my tester today and found out a few things. The injector on cylinder 4 opened at 1900 and then at 2100 and back at 1900 so I don't know what that means. Cylinders 2 and 3 opened right about 2100. But cylinder 1 at first opened and then would not open even at 5,000 psi. I took it apart and it looked kind of worn on the little hat thingy. Also a piece of crud in there. Anyway, I put it back together and again it would not open at all.

ALso, 2 of the injectors do not go pop, pop, pop real quick, they just spray continually.

I am not a diesel mechanic but sure sounds like you need new a set of injectors or figure out how to clean yours. Pretty sure they should not spray continuously.
