  • I just bought a property that came with a 1971 Allis-Chalmers 170 FEL.
  • I already own a FEL, and so my plan is the to sell the 170.
  • I don't have all the details on the 170 yet, as we won't take possession of the property for another 2 weeks (I'll update the post when I can).
    • I don't know the number of hours on it.
    • The previous owner claims he bought the tractor two years ago and put $6k into it, and he claims it runs great. I don't know what he spent the money on, but he claims he kept receipts and will provide them on the possession date. All I know is that he didn't put it into a visual restoration. It is in good shape, without dents, minimal rust, etc., but definitely not a show tractor.
    • The tractor was a throw-in as part of a counter-offer, so I didn't pay much attention when we were buying the property, which is the reason for my lack of details.
  • I know this is somewhat pre-mature given the details I am missing, but what sort of value am I looking at if I sell it?
  • Am I best to just sell it through the usual local channels (e.g., facebook/kijiji/craigslist/etc), or is there any collector value to it which would require selling it in a different channel? (1970 doesn't strike me as collectors territory...). Auctions?

Thanks for the help.

edit: the only picture I have at this point....

The Allis tractors were good basic tractors, many people liked them.
The 170 is nice sized small tractor, fairly nimble and nice handling.

Gas or Diesel?

My guess is $5,000 - $7,000

I list all my 'for sale' equipment on Tractor House and avoid all the low ballers and tire kickers.

I have never used Tractor House before. I see the first listing is free, so it is worth a shot for sure. Thanks.

Nice thing about TH is they will advise you what the unit is actually worth to sell at. Last time I sold a bailer (small square) and they advised me what to list it at which was actually more than I was going to list it at and took 3 days to sell it. Having said that I did pay for the listing because I included pictures but I will say, the insertion fee in my case, I recouped that cost because it sold for more than I was going to ask for it anyway and the buyer paid in cash and arranged for the transportation as well (the bailer was over width and required permitting).

Ok, so finally have my hands on the tractor, and I had some information wrong:
  • It is a 1973, but the serial number puts it as one of the last made in 72. Not sure what is going on there.
  • It is also a the gas model g-226 engine.
  • I have a $9200 work order in which they split the tractor redid the clutch, and a bunch of other things.
  • All hoses and belts look almost new.
  • Rear tires new.
  • When I started it, it run a little rough, which surprised me given the work done on it. Though no serious engine work shows up on this work order.
  • Hydraulics, Steering, brakes, PTO all work great.
  • I attached some photos, but it won't let me attach a video, so here is a link to it running: New video by Shea Martin
I am putting it up on Tractor House. It asks me for a price, but I don't see where it suggests a price.
