information on 790 jd 4x4

broke four wheel drive shaft off in transmission,do i have 2 split tractor in half 2 fix? or is this a simple fix? this tractor was my father's who is now deceased, he loaned it out when he was alive, and the person broke shaft off in tranny houseing. any info is greatlly appreciated. thanks

you are sure it's the transmission output shaft
for the drive shaft for the 4wd? not the
drive shaft itself?
if so, pretty sure it would require a split..

Yeah, a split and quite a few dollars...

You know, it really takes talent to screw up a 790.

Not heard of snapping 4wd shaft inside the tranny.... not that it cannot be done

I would verify, for sure, where the loss of drive is at.

Its common to grind up the gears in the front axle spindles with HEAVY loads and no give in traction on a 790.....

Could it be a slip collar on the actual drive line from the tranny to the front axle mabe???

yeah,the shaft is out and the broke peice is still inside, snapped the shaft off where it goes in to tranny.

Yes, It is the output shaft 4 the 4-wheel drive shaft, found out the feller was tryin to climb on the back of a car!!! pretty sad when your own 8 yearold son tell's off on u !!thanks 4 the feed back

Well, are you comfortable split'n the tractor in half??

If ya got a extra bay in the garage or a shop with a nice flat concrete floor, could save yourself some dollars....

Ether way I am pretty sure its gunna have to be split mabe not, but my guess is yes.
