Hello I am looking at upgrading my tractor from BX2660 to a L5740HSTCC3 with loader and grapple, 7' rear mower and front snow blower. I can't find much info on it on the forums so am asking anyone that owns that tractor what do they think of it? Any issues I should know about? What do you use it for? What would be pushing its limits?
Thank you.

We have only had our for about three or four months and so far really like it; replaced a L5030 HSTC. We use ours for cutting brush, weeds, grass etc in fields ditches with a Land Pride RCR2672, doing loader work and pulling a Land Pride HR3584.

I really like the HSTC+ and the heat and air work well. We have Top and Tilt which works great with our box scraper.

Sorry, I can't help with the snow blower or grapple. NEBRASKASPARKS has one with a grapple, but he hasn't been on in a while. There are several other L5740 owners on here including 4shorts who uses his for clearing snow; done a lot of mods on his.

Several owners don't care for the seat, but it doesn't bother me too much; no match for the M Series, but I can live with it.

What about the seat don't people like? I guess compared to the BX to me the seat is luxury.

That's quite a jump from a BX to an L5740. I love mine so far. I've had it just under a year and about 70 hrs so far. Little snow last winter and a dry summer has cut down on my snow removal/mowing time. I have the FEL with 3rd function, and one set of rear remotes. I finish mow my property with a 6' rear mower, and the L5740 is quite maneuverable for the size of the machine. It's also surprisingly gentle on the turf (with R4's), as long as you don't get on it too early in the spring. Fuel consumption is around a gal/hr while mowing, which is more than my L3710, but still not bad considering I've got 20 more hp. I also run a 7' dual auger Lorenz snow blower, which my previous L3710 struggled with at times. I got a couple snow blowings in with the new one, and it didn't even know the blower was back there, even going through 3' drifts. The seat should be adequate if your coming off a BX. I think what most are referring to with the seat is that it should be a lot better for a $35k cab tractor. I built a deck this past summer and borrowed a skidsteer QA hydraulic auger. The third function ran it quite well and I drilled about twenty 40" deep holes with a 20" diameter auger. Took me half a day, but I hit some decent size rocks that I had to dig out with a bar. Nice part was there was very little dirt cleanup. I'd love a grapple, since I cut a lot of firewood. Overall, I am very impressed with the tractor, and I haven't found any situation yet where I require more loader lift capacity or hp. I only wish Kubota would put the larger 12-16.5 tires on the front, like the MX series. I think these would be even easier on the turf as far as weight distribution. I would have taken an air ride seat, too, if Kubota had offered it as an option, but I'm not ready to shell out $600+ for one right now. Find a dealer that has one on the lot, and they should let you take it for a spin. I think once you do, you'll have to have one.

That's awesome, sounds like it will be a good upgrade for me. Do you mow at full throttle? I thought it was a hydraulic seat cause when I sat in one (agri trade) the seat was really bouncy and had an adjustable knob for stiffness. Can those tires be an option for it? I am looking forward to my test drive. Any issues that you've encountered?

I think I run around 2550 or 2600, not quite full throttle, there is a PTO speed indicator on the dash and I just select that option and throttle up to 540.

The seat knob turns a screw, which increases or decreases spring tension for different rider weights. When I mow I keep the rpm right around 2500, which is slightly less than 540 pto rpm, and seems to cut just fine. The 12-16.5 tires would physically fit, but would change the front/rear ratio, since they are taller. If you calculate the drive ratio, the stock setup actually has lag, where the rear tires are trying to push the fronts, which is undesireable. Someone on here replaced the fronts with the larger size, and had good results, but I can't remember who it was. I may try this when I eventually wear out my fronts. No issues so far, and this is my third Kubota. Never any issues with any of them, actually, other than the first two lacked cabs, and the extra ponies. I re-read your original post, and I'm not sure if a front blower is an option for this model. I don't know if you can get the mid pto, and if you could, I believe the third function on the loader plumbs in where the mid pto would go. You would have to check with your dealer to be sure. I know there are some aftermarket companies that make really slick front hitches/pto, but they are really pricey, in the realm of $10k. I don't use my tractor to move snow for a living, and I have been happy with my 3 pt blower. I have an 8 ft Fisher plow that I plan on adapting to a QA for the FEL. Someday.....

Here is the thread I was looking for, started by slowzuki: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/187261-upsized-front-r4-tires-l5030.html

I know the drive ratio on the L5740 is 1.564, same as the L5030. I asked a while back on here what the drive ratio on the MX5100 is, but no one could tell me. It would be interesting if it was the same ratio, and Kubota puts the larger fronts on the MX and same size rears as the L. Sounds like the larger fronts on the L series actually corrects the front tire lag issue.

Only have 30 hours on mine and love it. It was my bucket list tractor and I looked hard at the JD4720 too. Am very satisfied with my purchase.

This model needs as much weight as you can put on the back of it to handle the FEL lift, but once you get it balanced, it's a hoot to drive. The treadle lets you zip around intuitively.
I'm doing a lot of tree work in the forest and I have found it quite maneuverable with a quick steering ratio. As mentioned before, the front R4 tires will mark up your lawn, particularly
one that's had some recent rain, and with a loader full, and maybe less, you'll leave prints. I have found 2wd to be almost unusable on forest soil but I bet that could be very different if the tractor
had R1 tires on it. The R4s on the rear even lowered to 8 pounds ride hard. 4wd gets noisy on macadam, I generally stop and go into 2wd before I start the long lane. Never used the diff lock, haven't had need.

Fit and finish is very high. Suggest a max 66 grapple for it, I got a HD 72 and it's just too heavy. Maybe try to keep your grapple under 500 pounds. I'm a good example of buying what I thought was best quality, and in a way
it was, but it was/is simply to heavy for the tractor. Not the fault of the tractor, with the exception of some weakness in the curl, which is being checked out.

The electronically controlled trans is very high tech, feels like an old two speed powerglide shifting up, though it goes into high pretty quickly. I have not figured out how to use the FEL comfortably on AutoThrottle, so I run that part manual at 1800-2000 rpm. At that speed, with the air blowing cooly in your face, the tunes of choice playing in the background, it's reasonably quiet in there. Not like a modern car, but basically so you don't need ear protection.
I have not used it at pto speed, and will next Spring doing field mowing. I wish the tractor had an economy pto for running a 5 foot mower, which I already have and like very much. Generating close to max hp when I'm using a quarter or half of that just to achieve blade tip speed is not smart operation. There are so many features on this system, the Stall Guard, for example, that I leave on and just take for granted. Like antiskid braking on newer cars.

I put an inch thick memory foam pad on top of the oem basic seat, and it makes things adequate after tightening the seat up a million turns. Must be set for an 80 pounder from the factory. I need to soak it in WD40 or Kroil to get rid of the constant squeak in it too. Not a quality seat experience but I doubt it will wear out either.

Everything else is just excellent. Even the outside mirrors are holding up, after I whack them constantly in the woods. The cab really adds to safety when branches whip back at one, though I would not want to overly test the glass. Now I carry a large clipper in the rear ballast box and can reduce the body wear if I'm not too lazy to get out and cut the branch.

Yes, I thought the JD was prettier and had a nicer color coordinated cab, but for me, a local, proven, high quality Kubota dealer was my highest priority. JD is poorly represented in my area, Bucks Co.
I've been hearing discount ranges of 15-18% and that was my range also, but maybe you can leverage a pre-L60 discount.

Hope this helps. Drew

I have had mine for 2 years and like it. The basic seat s not a problem for me. It's been easy to clean when I've cot grease on it, and I don't find it uncomfortable, but the suspension isn't up to the bouncy tractor. I wish it had an air suspension like we ave on our large ag tractors. If I adjust for smoother fields, it bottoms out with a spine crunching jar in rougher ground. The swivel seat is nice but my left knee is permanently bruised by the steering column - I use mine for a lot of work where I am looking back a high percentage of the time. Rough ground and knee against the column most of the time equals pain. Mine was equipped with a front blower at the dealership. They used it or cleaning their lot during the lake effect snowy Northern Wisconsin winter. They too it off and replaced it with a loader for me - puzzles me now how it drove because if t was equipped with the mid PTO there is no sign of it now. I remember using the loader control for rotating the chute and raising and lowering the blower when I tried out the tractor before buying. The hydro is outstanding. I couldn't believe how much of an improvement it was over the hydro on the L3710 I traded in. It is a fuel hog relative to our full size utility JD6230 when doing the same job. Not sure if it is due to the hydro vs shuttle transmission or the inefficiency of the indirect injection engine vs, direct injection. I would have hoped that if both were doing a job the smaller tractor could handle the smaller tractor would use less fuel but that is not the case. Unlike most who dread the next emissions level, I am looking forward to trying the L6060 when it is available and will try to convince my wife to let me trade if only for the air suspension seat option.

Well I pulled the trigger and applied for finance for it (my fingers are crossed) but my sales rep is now across the country in Toronto for the grey cup so I won't know any details until Tuesday :(
I don't have good credit but am relying on the fact that I'm using the 2660 (plus several attachments that would be too small for this tractor) for trade in and that I've been financed for the 2660 for 3 years now with no problems at all with payments, that combined with being able to pay $1500/mo (dealer said it wouldn't be that high but it's good to know that I can afford it) so with all that I'm hoping it will be a yay without needing a cosigner again.
