Ford 3500 industrial
Hey, I have what I've been told is a 69 industrial 3500 that has a box scraper on the back of it. It's sat for probably a week and a half, started up great, box pulled up great, pulled it over to the shop to air up a tire, lowered scraper and loader, shut it down, filled tire, started it up and now it's like i've lost all rear hydraulic control. The box won't lift, none of the cylinders on the rear move at all. I checked the fluid and it is full and looks good. I was thinking of pulling the top cover off of the rear end but don't know what i'm getting myself into. Haven't been able to afford a manual yet but keeping an eye out for one. I'm a diesel mechanic, but I don't have any experience on tractors, never been into the back of one. Any pointers? I'll try to get some pictures posted. I also tried the draft in either direction, no difference. Shutdown and started tractor numerous times, went through rpm range. No difference. Stuck open relief valve somewhere? Any help is appreciated.

my screen is too small to currently view your pics, however, a few things to check.

if you have an asc valve, check it's position.

nect. check all your remote spools to make sure none are kicked .

lastly, if nothing pans out. check pump for prime.

Take a gauge and stick it in one of the remotes to see if you have any pump pressure. If your not sure if the fluid/filters has ever been changed, I would plan on doing that too. While your in there you might as well overhaul the lift cylinder and the top cover. Its just a bunch of orings that needs to be replaced and it makes all the difference in the world. Its about $25 in parts + hydro fluid and about 4hrs or so in labor. It sounds like a lot but its not hard at all.

I don't think it has an asc valve, but where would it be if it did? Controls are all centered, no position on any of them moves anything. Ignorant question, but how do I check pump for prime? Pull suction line and check for oil?

I'll bring one of my gauges home from work tonight and see what I come up with on it. I changed the oil on it right after I got it (last month I think) but didn't tear into it to change the filter. I checked with the new holland dealer here and they didn't have anything in stock for it. Not even the filter. I'll check what you guys mentioned on it and let you know what I find. Thank you for the replies.

I'm in the process of putting mine back together so I took a few pictures of what you'll be looking at if you decide to remove the sump cover. The paper filter is the return and the metal screen is the suction. On both my 3000 and 4400 the hydraulic return tube tab was broken and the filters were so clogged the 3ph would barely work. On the 3000 the 3ph works like its brand new. My brother welded tab back on and its good as new. Your dealer can order what you need if its not in stock. If I can find my receipt I'll try to post the part numbers.

I may be all wet, but with a 3500 industrial with loader, isn't his pump at the front and the filter at the bottom of the left side loader post? Hard to tell from the pics, but could his entire lift run from the power beyond port on the loader valve? Maybe his model number would shed some light on what system he has, if maybe just a straight pto with no live?

The loader is completely independent of the 3ph hydraulics. It has its own pump that's run off the crank.

it will be easy to see if he has a tractor mounted pump...

It has a pump off the front of the crank with a driveshaft that runs the front end loader, there is a filter for it behind the grill and i replaced that along with all the fluid I could. There is another pump on the top left front side of the engine that runs the power steering, and then a pump on the top left rear that runs the rear hydraulics. I checked for pressure today and there is nothing. Figured I might as well tear into it and see what I can find. Pulled the top cover off (good god that's a heavy one man show) and started it up with a hose off of the feed pipe that runs to the top cover. Hardly any sputtering even. So I drained the oil out of it, and pulled the filters. The suction filter was just hanging there half off the tube, once i got the tube and filter out, found the end of the filter was completly off. There's probably half an inch of sludge and crap in the bottom of the case. So plan of attack, pull pump, tear down, clean and inspect, clean out rearend, flush hoses and change the pressure hose, looks like the one that is on it won't allow the parking brake to work. I'll overhaul the lift cylinder in the lid and change all the o rings that I can get at. Replace both filters. Sound like a legit plan? Thanks for all the help guys, especially the pictures city farmer. Anything in particular to watch out for when I tear into this further?

If you don't have a service manual, get one. Use no goop/sealer/glue when replacing cover to center gasket. Take your time, post questions here. Rig up a hoist, block and tackle, atv winch/pulley/hoist for cover reinstall. Way easier with some kind of lift to hold the cover while you guide it in to place, versus two guys struggling to position that darn heavy cover. My $0.02 for the day... :)
