Indian automakers aim to eat Detroit's lunch

I am currently in India. The Indian Mahindra models just scream utility and simplicity telling you hey I will take the abuse. You need new fender. You can make one. You need different bed. Make one and bolt it on etc.
I rent a lot of cars for work. I rented F150 while ago in Canada. It is way too posh (read expensive) and scary fast (tried that on one of the back roads there topping around 210 kph when the speed governor kicked in) for a working truck.
I think there is a marked for very basic, no frills, pretty or ugly (read inexpensive) working truck.
I saw Kia light truck in Australia few years back.

Cheap (Guys told me about 20000 AUD = approx 16000 USD at that time), 1.2ton, ofered only in white color, 2.5 l diesel, 5 speed manual, no frills, no options.
