A lot of things I go to lift with my 14LA loader on my TC34DA are just over the threshold of lifting capacity. Likewise, when I am using the 758C backhoe sometimes I need just a little more umph to get the job done. Probably 15 to 20% would be sufficient. Is there anything that can be done to the tractor to accomplish this or is it possible to install a larger hydraulic pump to increase flow? I bought this tractor new and only have 175 hrs. on it but I suspect that it is not lifting the amount of weight the manual states it supposed to and also I suspect that the ripping force that is stated in the manual is not being realized. Any help appreciated.

Increasing the flow rate will only make it move faster. For more "Umph", you need more pressure, not more flow. You could check the pressure, and possibly increase the setting on the relief valve. I would be careful about increasing the setting beyond what the factory recommends. There is a reason they recommend that setting. You may get away with lifting heavier than rated on your loader for a time, only to have something give (on your loader or front axle) after a while , or when you hit a bump with a heavy load.

How old is your tractor? If it used to lift more, perhaps your pump is worn or damaged?

My tractor only has 175 hrs. on it. It is a 2006 model but sat on the lot until I bought it new in '08. It seems to me that it wont lift as much as the manual says it should. I guess it still lifts as much as when I bought it new, it just seems to be a little anemic when it comes to weight lifting. I gusssess I should hook a pressure gauge to it to verify that the pump is pumping as much pressure as it should be. Thanks for the input.

If it is low on pressure, hopefully the fix will be as simple as adjusting the relief valve.

I can't recall if the lift rating on these is with the bucket installed or without it, but I'm betting it's without the bucket installed. The 14LA loader has a rated lift capacity of 1596# raised to 5 ft off the ground, measured at the bucket pivot pin. It should do 1256# raised to full height measured at the bucket pin. (If you'd find the specs at 20" forward of the pin more useful, I can dig those up.)

I have all the manuals for it including the service manuals, loader & backhoe manuals and those numbers are familiar. I can tell you for sure that it wont lift 1596 with the bucket. With pallet forks on it strains to get 1000 lbs off the ground. I definitely am gonna check the pressure and if it aint up to snuff I will be adjusting it. Thanks again.

Just keep in mind that the capacity will drop dramatically as you move further from the loader pins. Though I can't imagine it should have trouble just lifting 1000# off the floor. Usually, the geometry of the loader cylinders is such that they have more lift at the beginning of their range of motion than they do at the end.

I think you should review the numbers in your manual, and after you make changes to your hydraulic system make sure nobody is nearby when you are lifting things. Your hoses, fittings, steel, pins, axles, etc are all rated for a certain mass. When you decide to dial things up you will have some problems at some point. My advice is to get the right loader for the job before you go adjusting things.
