BX - 23
Hi Guys,

I am the Happy operator of a new BX -23, w/ back-hoe, 60" mmm & fel. It's really neat & I've been a hit with all the Stuuff I've been able to accomplish with the little Darlin...
I've planted around 14 Trees & smoothed-out & filled-in & seeded all sorts of new lawn. Removed boulders where they wern't wanted, graded, smoothed, & fluffed the gravel drive. I'm puttin drainage in where it never was...You know all kinds a stuff, fun stuff....
BUT,................ I can't pick up the friggin leaves!
When I convinced my Wife on the new Cure-All Bx-23 I forgot about leaves........& I gave my 12 hp Kohler, Craftsman with a BAGGER to my son & he won't give it back!!!

I guess I could try pickin em up w/ the back-hoe. some folks may think me Crazy but perhaps mildly interesting & harmless.....or.I could try scooping em with the Loader but I'm sure there would be no Grass where there were once Leaves!!!

Should I sneak over & steal - back the Mower / Bagger.???????????no, guess not... I'm in a dither....

There is no-way She will go for $1500.00for a Kubota Bagger ......What do I do??
Guy's what kinda toys are there out there that will get me out of trouble w/ my Bride???
Can any one realte at all & maybe give me some ideas...?
Thank's guys for listenin anyway............. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gifPaul

p.s. I like hard work---but----- I don't like rakin leaves! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Wish I could-- but too many, they are so deep & thick when mulched the pesky little things kill the lawn in a lot of places...
Thanks brother for your thoughts thou ++++. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Paul

I have a 45 bushel Trac-Vac that I bought used from my JD dealer. It's not big enough because in some places I can only go about 20' before it fills. I am looking for a trailer model. This time of year there are a few of them on Ebay.

Swap work with your neighbors, assuming one of them have a garden tractor with a collection system or are so gratuitous for the work they could never do or pay for that they use rakes and such.

keywest,

I don't have a BX23 but I'm surprised that it won't pick up leaves. Are they wet/packed down hard?

Every mower I've ever run will mulch/blow the leaves out the chute when mowing forward and will blow leaves when going backwards. I do the backwards mowing to blow leaves from around trees and stuff as well as creating windrows.

Get a landscape rake for the BX /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
It may mess up the lawn a little bit but at least the leaves are raked. As long as there are a lot of them it works pretty well.
Plus it is another piece of equipment for the BX.

Maybe you could attach a leaf plow to the front bucket. They're somthing like a rake that I've seen fitted to the zero turn units for leaf collection. It doesn't pick them up but it will put them in one general area.

I did a quick search and here are a couple:

Kaw leaf plow

Jerco leaf plow

You can buy a Parker tow behind sweeper for around $800 that will definitely pick up leaves. There are sweepers available at Home Depot and Sears available for under $300, but not built as well. Parkers are the top line of sweeper and they make a 42" wide commercial duty unit that will last many years. Mine is 25 years old and was used commercially in my lawn maintenance business the first 6 years. Parker makes good stuff.

Interesting situation. The BX23 is a dedicated backhoe, right? so,, no 3ph for installing any sort of bagger or even pulling a collection system? can you get a pull type sweeper, and pull it behind the backhoe?
how about a HD gasoline blower, and blow them into a huge pile then move them with the bucket,, and maybe some tarps?
make your own leaf blade,, a piece of plywood tied to the bucket to push the pile?

ah,,
better yet,,

chain saw!
dig out stumps with hoe,
plant xmas trees!
