Down the road from my property in the mountains is an old cemetary. There were at least half a dozen war memorial markers... from the Revolutionary War.

Can you still see the names? That's got to be so cool. I think I'd just stop by there every once in awhile just to tell those fellows thanks.

Do those headstones ever get decorated?

Many of the stones are in rough shape and are hard to read. Some are broken and laying down. The veterans markers look like cast iron. They look like the WWII marker on my fathers grave, but of course older. And they say Revolutionary War. One of the stones that I could read was for a Captain. Another was for an infant girl that died at 10 days old. In the upper left hand corner of the cemetary was a plot for a husband and wife that were born in 1912 and 1916 respectively. They died in 1999 and 2003. The graves had knick knacks and signs that said Mom and Dad. Standing in this cemetary in the middle of nowhere provoked an emotional response in me. I think one of the markers had a flag on it. I know my father's grave in the city has a fresh flag on it every Memorial day. How much do we owe to those that have gone before us?

I have been told of a pet cemetery in Worcester MA that dates back to the late 1800's, but I have never been able to locate it. Are you familiar with it's whereabouts? There are some very old smaller cemeteries in Worcester that I had seen when I first moved here, but have no recollection as to exactly where. I have always enjoyed visiting them and trying to read the headstones, but so many were difficult because of age. My original backhoe came from a cemetery in Worcester and my 79 Ford dump truck came from St. Johns on Cambridge Street.

I'm not aware of a pet cemetary in Worcester. One of the older cemetaries in Worcester is Rural cemetary on Grove Street. All the old movers and shakers of Worcester are buried there. When the newspapers come out at 4 AM I pick up a copy and read it while sitting next to Isiah Thomas' crypt. Seems only Fitting.
