Muhammad,

Don't get up from that keyboard just yet.

First, thank you for your tractor buying basics, it helped this neophyte decide with some confidence on a tractor purchase. But I do not come from a farming family and there are no experienced neighbors to recommend nor show me how use an attachment.

It is obvious from questions on all of the discussion formums that an additional book is needed on how to use a tractor and operate the various attachments. I joke with my dealer that some farmer is missing out on running a tractor school where he would be paid by new owners to work his land for him. So the rows wouldn't be straight but he could make some money.

I have not found any text on what impliments are best for a given task nor how to use them, even equipment manufacturer's online manuals mostly discuss liability issues rather than how to use their impliment.

If you ever write such a text please save a copy for me.

I agree with you as to the lack of literature regarding tractor implements and their use. Back in the 60's and 70's there were some "back to the land movement" books that had sections on tractors, etc., but I do not remember the titles. In addition to "Tractor Buying Basics", there are two other books that I am aware of: "The Compact Tractor Bible" by Dr. Graeme R. Quick (2006) and "How to Use Implements on Your Small-Scale Farm" by Rick Kubik (2005). They are small books and offer some interesting information. I learned more from my 20+ years riding on the seat of my tractors. If you need more information about these books let me know. Jay

Jay,

Thank you, I'll try to locate a copy of the "How to..." book, it sounds like a good reference.

I suspect that manufacturers are concerned about liability and how their products might be used/misused when they decline to provide information.

Bill,

I agree with the corporate liability paranoia . My old memory banks  keep whispering Mother Earth News, Mother Earth Press to me; but I have not had the time to research out what "the voices" are saying :p. Jay

Thanks for the information. I just ordered both from Amazon for $37.00.
