HELLO!

I am purchasing a M5040 and the dealer has recommended the following attachments. Good fit for the tractor? How does the price look?

Rhino 272 6' Cutter $1,990.00
Brush Hog MBX720 6' Box Blade $890.00

Thanks,
Troy

Those are both highly regarded attachment brands. Prices seem fair given the name brands and especially since the Rhino is a heavy duty model.

I have the same box blade that I bought 1.5 years ago. my cost was about $675. I am not familure with the Rhino cutter. I bought a 6' woods heritage model (light duty) at the same time and paid $1600 for it.
Given the recent rise in fuel and steel prices that would seem about right.
Nice tractor BTW, have fun! :)

Thanks!

I got some prices from the JD dealer since I have been speaking with him and they are no better.

Wish I could find a cheap grapple local. Kubota dealer has one for me, but it is 1,939.00 for the 6' foot model.

You don't need a 6ft grapple. Tractor grapples should usually not be as big as the standard bucket. I have a six foot standard bucket and a 48inch Millonzi grapple on a 41hp tractor. Works perfectly. 48" or 60"max is the right size grapple for your tractor. For general clean up I might go with the 60" but for digging brush out and stumping etc I'd recommend the 48" as it is lighter and allows you to place all the force in a smaller area. Also, you won't find any 60inch bush roots so the 48 is fine. You can get the 48inch Millonzi for half of what your dealer is quoting. Search TBN.

Very interesting thread...
I have been thinking about getting a grapple for my MX5000. I am going to be building a new house on my hobby farm and tearing down the old farm house. I am going to pay the excavator to make two piles out of the old house. One for the wood/burnable material and one for the basement/foundation rubble thats going to be dug out. Do these grapples fit all loaders? Would I want a brush grapple or a general purpose type?

An M5040 (or the JD 5203 you were also looking at) would have the size and power to run slightly larger implements, specifically a 7' or 8' rotary cutter, and a 6.5' or 7' box blade. I have a 6' rotary cutter on my JD 5105 (47 PTO hp, a tiny bit more than an M5040) and have double the power I need. If you are mowing large areas, I would seriously consider a larger cutter. However, if you are mowing tight areas, or extremely dense vegetation, the 6' may be the way to go.

As for a box blade, it must be as wide or wider than the rear track of your tractor, or it won't work well for multiple passes. I think the standard track on an M5040 is around 72", so you would be barely OK. You should have the power and traction to use a wider box in most conditions, and I would consider going wider.

From my own shopping a year ago I seem to remember the Kubota manual recommending a box blade no wider than 6', but I think that is bad advice. Supposedly Kubota is ultraconservative on such ratings.

I have already read up and called for pricing. The 48" is 1,371.00 shipped which means I could get the 48" WR Long for less because my dealer will eat some of the shipping cost.

I think I am going to wait on this implement since I am already buying a tractor that costs 5k more than I wanted to spend.

I just got a quote from Millonzi for the 60" light duty grapple. once you add the extra $120 (for Kubota mounting) $198 shipping you would only be saving $67 compared to the Kubota quote.
