Implement Basics. Never owned a tractor

I will be purchasing a compact tractor in the next few months, and need to know if implements are interchangeable between all tractor manufacturers. That is will a rotary cutter for a New Holland work with a Deere, or a Kubota, etc... Thanks for the input

The short answer is "Yes." All compact tractors between 17hp or so and 50hp or so (excluding "garden" or "lawn" tractors) use a Category 1 3-point hitch, go pretty much any implement will fit on any tractor. There are exceptions, but if you're talking about anything you could buy new now, you're ok.

DSmith-Yes implements are interchangable between brands of tractors. The limiting factors are the size of the tractor, the PTO horse power and the 3 point hitch category. Compact tractors are a Cat1 hitch with Cat2 and 3 being the big boys. What you want to watch for is not buying implements to large for your tractor size. An eight foot rotory cutter is not going to work on a 17hp tractor. Little tractors take little bites. That said, you normally want to get implements that are not to small. If a mower or blade is not as wide as the tractors foot print you will drive you self nuts trying to do a clean job. Good luck on you hunt and let us know what you end up with.

Other posts are good advice. There is a CAT 0 3ph, generally used on garden, rather than, compacts. I believe that some CAT 0 implements are not interchangeable. Good idea to get a CAT 1 machine. Also some implements, such as sub-frame mounted backhoes are not 3ph implements, and are not interchangeable.
