( I can't become older to get a better price. )

Sure you can, and will someday, if nothing bad happens. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

( Would it be as accepted if you had to pay 10% more because you're a senior? )

I guess it is, in some ways. Seniors have to pay more for life insurance and health insurance are the first things that come to mind.

( Shouldn't I get the same price if I go earlier to dinner? I'm filling the same seat as a senior for the restaurant. )

Yeah, but you probably eat more; at least I did when I was younger. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

And of course I felt the same way you do when I was younger. I knew many of the seniors who got discounts when they had more money and could afford higher prices a lot better than I could. However, I also know many seniors who don't have much money and can't afford to eat out very often.

I've kind of enjoyed kidding with you, but I guess the bottom line for me is that I figure it should be up to the business owner as to what he charges. If you or I, either one, don't like his prices or his pricing practices, we're free to go elsewhere, and do. I've never asked for a discount, but yes, I take it when it's offered. And the fact is that we eat more often at places that do not offer a discount than we do at places that do.

( Pricing preferences based on age are wrong.)

Actually this concept has been around for a long time. Children under certain ages enjoy discounts at movies, airplane flights, amusement parks nemerous things...and even at retaurants for being a certain age. I know you're going to say ..."I can understand the restaurant discount because a kid eats less and it's a smaller meal" Well true in most cases but not all...

How many times have you heard of the salesman saying, "Well, normally the price is ..... but for you, ..."
I personally think worrying about discrimination is over rated because it happens too frequently any way. Discrimination and dicrimnating choises run parallel with each other but the two stem from similar feelings. When I get as old as Bird I'd love to get everydiscount available. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'m not THAT old....yet

It may be morbid to think in this manner, but now, before I make any purchase over $100, I ask myself two questions:

1. Do I really need this item?
2. Will I use it enough to justify the expense?
==========
When you're young the question is will the product last a life time.
When you're getting older the question becomes will the product out live me.

We moved here in June 1966. The forty years since have whizzed by so fast that I tell people had I known living here would make me get so old so quick I wouldn't have stayed so long.

Re: I\'m not THAT old....yet

AH!!! a man of true inteligence. i don' t look for senior discounts, but when offered i accept them. i can not control my age so if i can get $2 off a haircut i gladly accept. I can afford the extra $2 but when offered? who would not accept a savings? and in most cases the savings are not substantial, just great advertising and marketing. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
