Dave--I suspect the chain will hook into your tractor drawbar hole--That is a style than many of the later models IH mowers used to carry the tip of the bar--You just change the linkage and the tip of the blade will rest higher or lower--Ken Sweet

The chain is to connect to a cable or rod attached to the hydraulic "power pack" arm on the tractor, used to lift the cutterbar.
