I've got an IH 6788 that I use on a TMR wagon. When the hydraulic oil is cold steering is a little whiny, but it works. When I feed the cows and run the hydraulic belt conveyor on the wagon I loose steering and don;t get it back until it sits for several hours. Had the dealer out and they found a valve sticking on the left side of the transmission, but that didn't help. Next they said the pump is probably going out. I checked on pricing for the new pump and it'll be $2600+. I had the pump replaced 3-4 years ago and don't want to dump that kind of money into all the time. I saw a gear pump conversion kit for the 6788 and was wondering if anyone has done this, and what pros/cons I could see by doing this. The kit is $966.67 through waltstractors.com and there located in mexico, mo and includes the pump and all hoses needed for the conversion. Need to get her going before the corn is ready to chop, Thanks.

I think that you are having the issues do to your hydraulic uses. Did the belt conveyor have a return hose or bleed off line so there would be three lines?

The hydraulic conveyor just has two lines. If I push the hydraulic lever forward it'll run to the right, if I pull the lever back it runs to the left. When I simply raise or lower the chute on the mixer, it will also cause the steering to lock up after the tractor has warmed up.
The service guy says after the hydraulic oil heats up and the steering locks up that means the pump is getting weak. I need to try to pressure test the pump if I can find where to do that.
