IH 444 Preheater

Hi Guys

Posted this in a different forum but realised it was wrong one and now can't delete. Hope this ok admins?

Im just looking at buying an IH 444 - the newer model - and i am told that there is a preheater but the owner doesn't have a clue how to work them and i can't seem to see how it would work. Does the round thing that looks like a pepper pot have something to do with it?

Apparently there was a new ignition fitted a few weeks ago and I'm wondering if perhaps the wrong ignition was fitted as it had been suggested to me about turning counterclockwise or pushing the key in an extra stage to get the plugs to work but neither of these options seem possible on this ignition. Perhaps i should try get a look at the old ignition as i see it is on the floor of the cab and see if it has any different positions?

Can anyone help me with this?

The glow plug system should activate if you hold the key between the "run" and "start" positions, the pepper pot should be the coil window that will glow red when the plugs have cycled.
