If you own a M6040 please reply

I keep jumping around with different tractors and now believe I will end up with a M6040, because I have some big mowing jobs ahead of me. I want to know if the M6040 will have enough power to pull a 15ft flexwing mower. This would be rented 4-6 times a summer and will use a 7ft Bush Hog to do the smaller jobs. I will have a FEL, but would like to take it off while doing those big jobs. I'm a bit worried this will be overkill for my 5 acrer lot, but the calls keep coming in. I will be stepping up from my L3400 that will go to my brother to help out. Please let me know if you have been happy with the new M series tractors.

Don't have a M6040, but do have a M5400 (older version of the improved M6040). I wouldn't do it, that's way too much mower. You could run a 10 footer in ligher stuff or go real slow in heavy stuff.....

A M6040 would handle a big bat wing if the land is reasonably flat. It might only take 2 hours give or take to do 5 acres, depending on how tall and dense the grass is. If the grass was 3-4 ft tall and lush, I'm guessing the M6040 would need a lower ground speed.

One of my fields is 7 acres - former orchard, not smooth. I have found a 90" woods finish mower with swing-back blades to be just the right tool. It makes a nice looking field even if only cut 3 or 4 times in a season. 40 shaft hp will drive it fine (although I have 50). There are some obstacles and a few moguls, so it takes 4-5 hours.

I believe, like an above poster stated, that a M6040 will run a 15ft batwing. I have a M7040 and a heavy duty older Bushog batwing and it runs it with no problem in medium density grass. I have to slow down because of bumps before it looses power. I generally mow in 3rd gear if that gives you a reference. This might be equivelent to 2nd gear in a M6040 for the power to speed ratio in a similar type of grass.

If I were you I would go ahead and get the M7040 (wait......I was you........ and that is what I did........) for a few extra dollars and dont worry about being able to do the given job or not.

I do agree that the M series is too big for 5 acres but like you said you want to mow with a batwing. That was my sole reason for getting the bigger tractor.
