If you have mounted a KingKutter "XB" tiller to a Kubota BX tractor, can we talk?

If you have a BX tractor (mine is a BX24) and have hitched a KingKutter "XB" tiller, I would like to talk about the PTO shaft.

I have one for my BX24. I had to follow the process for cutting down the shaft to correct length...

Thanks for the response; do you recall how much you shortened the PTO shaft?

When you note ". . .almost too much.." could you explain a bit further as I am interested in the "too much" part of your original response. Thank you.

Ufda! I just knew that's what you were going to ask... :)

I really don't recall, it's been too long. It was not an insignificant amount (seems like a few inches?) off each half. It certainly was enough that it would have caused damage had I not cut it down - if it would have even been able to get squeezed in. I followed the measurement directions that came with it and cut the amount off each half that I had figured.

I'll look for my instructions, in case I happened to jot down measurements, but it's not likely. If someone has done it more recently, perhaps they will chime in.

Just thought - I can measure the remaining length. I'll try to get to that in a bit.

OK, here is what I ended up with. Though in sharing this, I really hope you'll do the steps to see if it would be the same for you. I have no idea if the configuration of the mounting locations of the gearbox on the tiller, or the framing itself or anything may have changed on the newest tillers. If the gearbox mounts closer or further from the tractor these days, my length could differ than what you would need.

Anyway, I cut both halves down to a total of 15 1/2 inches, from the end to end. Here's the front half.

Back half is the same - 15 1/2" including slip clutch.

Well, this was (a) certainly a super effort on your part and much appreciated; (b) obviously a dramatic change from the original length; and (c) yes, I will follow the owner's manual procedure for shortening (for sure). Thanks again, my auto shop skills are not all they might be and I feel much more confident after seeing or hearing what someone else did.
