Yanmar YM2500
Ok guys and gals,

BOTTOM LINE. MY MAHINDRA IS AN EXCELLENT TRACTOR BUT ITS JUST TOO BIG FOR MY NEEDS. I'm having a hard time excepting that because I don't really want to part with it!

I tried to buy my YM2000 back from the person I traded the 2001 Ford Ranger 4x4 with, but as expected, HE DON'T WANT TO GET RID OF IT!..... DARN THAT HURTS!

IF ya'll had to choose between the Yanmar YM2610, YM2500, and YM3000, What would it be and why? Of the 3, which has the best parts support?

I know all the differences between the 3 (functions and controls). AND, I know it decides on what I would be using the tractor for.

Well it would be for a little pasture mowing, driveway maintenance, a small garden, but mainly finish mowing. All this would be to maintain about 5-7 acres, and to possibly make a little money on the side (which wouldn't be too often because of time wise).

The implements that I currently have and don't PLAN on selling are at the bottom of this post in my signature.

I know I post a lot on "this tractor and that tractor", and "which one to buy", and so on.......but, #1: Its my money that will be spent, #2: There are A LOT of choices with the Yanmar tractors!, and finally, #3: Everyone on here is pretty knowledgeable with the Yanmars.

Travis,

Hope you don't mind my saying so...but I believe you're going about this a little backwards. If you are genuinely ready to buy another tractor and have the funds earmarked for a Yanmar then you need to find and pick a dealer that you're comfortable with. Ask him all these, and any other questions you can think of.

I don't know any one individual that owns all three models you've listed anyway. At best each owner of one of the particular models in your post may answer....or a Dealer than can supply you with information on any model including the ones you've listed.

Clear as Mud?

No Mark, I don't mind you saying so. To tell the truth I kinda laughed a little when I read your post! My Grandfather calls me "backwards" all the time. I just tell him that "the nut don't fall far from the tree, now does it?"! That usually quitens him up til' next time anyway. I guess he says that because i'm left-handed. I've heard him say that a time or two also! Haha!

I can't talk tractors with him because he knows nothing and I mean NOTHING about them. Believe me. I've tried. All he had when he was growing up was a mule and plow.

Yes, I sure hope dealers on here give their say in these choices.

I am now even considering a YM2310 that I ran across today (a little better in my price range). The dealer told me that it would pull my 5' Bush Hog Squealer cutter.

Thanks for your reply.

This is more of a question than advise. Why no consideration of the newer F 3 or 4 digit models with the step through design with the "creep gear" being a separate range that can be engaged in any gear or range. (18 fwd, 3 rev) and possibly a 4sp PTO? Are they not available in your area? Cost an issue?

Based on the model ID chart I have, why the consideration for a gear drive model, YM3000, as compared to one with power-shift? Also wonder why danny placed the YM3000 at the top for parts when the chart I'm looking at say they are only made one yr, 1977?

At my local dealer, Tractor Ernie, I see a fairly even mix of YM and F models and have been told parts are not an issue.

As for how big a model you need, all I can say is, anything around 25HP should be able to handle the tasks you've mentioned. I have no problems with a 5' mower on my pasture and can handle the 4.5' tiller on well compacted pasture. Absolutely no problem handling the tiller in the garden that gets worked multiple times a yr.

Thanks for your reply.

Well money is a factor. I can't really afford a "luxuary" bigger size Yanmar. And to be quite honest, I don't really like how the F and FX model Yanmars look (just my opinion, and I do have a passion for all tractors). I have heard they are great tractors though.

With all of this said, I just got back from driving my FIRST Yanmar with the Powershift transmission! Come to find out, it is a model that i'm looking at too. It was the YM2310. I truly was impressed with the machine AND the transmission. Powershifts should be on all tractors!

Seriously though it was very nice. I now know the answer to my question. The YM2310 WILL FOR SURE handle all of my tasks with no problems. I no longer have to worry about that. Now, if I could just sell my Mahindra pretty fast.....

Just curious, what will you use for baling? Older iron? The 2310 should handle the rotary cutter but I'm pretty sure you mentioned doing some baling in another post? I do love my power shift, have to admit. I know a lot of the old iron doesn't have a lot of horsepower but it makes up for that in weight and torque as far as pulling a baler goes and I'm not sure the 2310 could do that safely.

Don't take this sarcastically because I don't mean for it to sound that way, but you should probably make a list of everything the tractor needs to do and see if there is one that will do it all for you. A good dealer I should think would be able to advise you. If 2 tractors are required then maybe you could find something cheap in the way of old iron to do the bigger tasks?

Thanks for the reply Roxy. Nothing was taken sarcastically.

No, me owning two tractors again at the same time is definitely out of the question. But that sure would be fun! Bailing hay in not a necessity for me. It just gives me a little more seat time and some more (very little) money. I get more seat time than money is what i'm trying to say. It is an enjoyment for me. But I don't have to do it.

After driving the YM2310 today, I now have NO DOUBT that the tractor can easily handle all of my tasks. With this said, the YM2000 could handle them also, BUT couldn't quite handle my implements the way I wanted it to.

If I had to do it over again, I never would have let the YM2000 leave my hands! I would have just "down-sized" a couple of my implements. That was one of many HUGE mistakes that i've made in my life (not to mention there's probably many more to come!). But as the saying goes, "you live and learn". It just takes others longer to learn than the rest.

He means how much money would you pay in addition to your Mahindra for his 3110D. In other words, your Mahindra plus "X" number of dollars to boot.

HA!

I kinda thought he meant something like that though! Haha!

Well, I could give the Mahindra and a wheelbarrow load of High-Quality rabbit pellets, IF kenmac would throw in an extra $3000.00 (for the rabbit feed of course)! Haha! And heck, if the deal works out, I may even consider throwing in the Wheelbarrow too!

On a little more serious note- I don't need a 4x4 tractor, even though i'm sure it would be nice at times. The YM3110D is Probably just a tad bigger tractor than i'm needing/wanting to buy.

Thanks for the laugh!

Ok, Travis here's my last offer . To sweeten the deal 4 you . I'll even take the 4x4 off the tractor at no x-tra charge (or boot ) (Travis, I can't believe you never heard that saying b-4) So ,now you only have a 3110. Think bout it, cause like I said ,it's my last & final offer. Wait just a cotton pickin minute !! If your Mahindra ain't no 4 x4 then, there ain't no deal !!:( AS in, I never brought it up. Cause,I ain't gonna trade no yanmar 3110D for no 2 w.d. Mahindra .Travis, you tried to pull 1 over on me:mad: WOW !, my sister would really be proud of me . I learned to talk like she does on a daily basis.:p

I don't know how to make those little faces appear in my posts. How do you do that??

What my plans are is to sell the Mahindra, buy the Yanmar (not sure which model yet), and have money left over in my pocket. Thats what i'm gonna do.

I can use a smaller, cheaper (cost) tractor for all of my needs and have money in the bank "to boot"!!(this is where i need one of them little faces kenmac. Haha!!)

A YM3000 is probably a little too big for me, even though i'm considering that model. I'm thinking more of a YM2310, YM2500, or even a YM2610. It'll probably be the one that I get the best deal on.

I like the YM2610 best of the 3, but i've been getting some pretty high prices on that model. Then again- the YM2310 I know would handle all of my chores easily.

If there's ONE thing to hate about Yanmar tractors, or tractors in general, is there are SO many different models to choose from! Its very frustrating.

I would go 2320 cuz u get the power shift on the colunm. Also if I am not mistaken parts support is better. If u want to go 10 series go 2210 cuz they got that wonderful 2 banger and great parts support......

Not sure if you were kidding or not, but the FAQ at the top tells about the smilies, and when you make a post, they appear to the right of where the message is being typed. When you get ready to insert one you just click which one you want :) , it inserts it:D , then submit reply and just like magic there it is.
