I think that often writers are knowledgeable enough about science to base their tales on fact. For instance; when Jules Vernes wrote 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea there were no deep sea submarines, yet a lot of people had experimented with them over the years and the "Hunley" actually was used in battle, to the dismay and loss of it's crew.

The panspermia theory just moves the problem of the origin of life from Earth to some other place.

And it also brings up another question, what if the seeds of like were purposefully planted on Earth, and someday the ones that did it may come back to see what grew out of it. If they do, I wonder what they will do with their crop of organic fauna.

One thing that I always thought was a sign that extraterrestrial life might be similar to life forms on Earth, is that astronomers have discovered many of the same organic compounds in interstellar gas that are the building blocks for life here on Earth. That may lead to extraterrestrial life being based on very similar chemistries and biological processes.

I am of the opinion that science and religion must in the end agree. There is only one truth. Religious teachings that refute proven science are merely superstition. On the other hand as we learn more, old science is continually refuted by new science. Our grasp of, even our ability to grasp the totality of science is quite limited. (We ain't nearly as smart as we think we are)

The more we learn about the universe, the more we realize we don't yet know.

If we were visited by aliens, I wonder if they would share their advanced knowledge with us, or adhere to something akin to the Prime Directive.

Why do we expect any habitable planet to have human-like forms and civilizations in synchrony with us, esp time-wise without just projecting on our own self-awareness??
