I don't recall seeing wheelhorse tractors with vertical front grillsLate 60's to early 70's wheel horse.
The front axle, wheels, transmission shifter and deck height adjuster look Wheel Horse. The grill looks like Bolens.I don't recall seeing wheelhorse tractors with vertical front grills
I agree on the MTD diagnosis.....I just rememberd the model of the larger one I had (990). Look up MTD 760, since it has the smaller engine.

I think you're right it likes like an old Sears or Monkey Ward, made by MTD or their predecessor.Definitely not wheel horse, MTD had a model that used that front grill and was rebranded branded through a number of stores so could be a number of models. I had one that had a 16hp b&s, still have the grill hanging in the shed.
