We had a great trip offshore fishing yesterday. Caught a few fish, sow several pods of dolphins, 12' wide Manta-Ray and this whale with a calf? Do whales have calves? Anyway I think it's a Sperm Whale but not sure. This whale had to be 40' or longer. Her and the baby came to within 20' of the boat and looked 100' but that was just when they were swimming at the boat and everyone was so excited.

Any whale experts out there?

Thanks,

Charles

I just did a little "googling" and to me it looks like the nose of a Sperm Whale /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Either that or it's the tail about to come out possibly a humpback whale? Sperm whales aren't usually too close to shore, they're very deep feeding whales, humpbacks tend to get closer to shore.

Yeah , I thought that could possibly be it also but, I figured it looked more like the nose of the sperm whale with the way the water is distrubed around the break. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif maybe
