Helpful photo storage hint:

Each time you load pictures onto your laptop from your camera, you should also make a DVD backup (and test it) before you clear your camera memory chips. ;) Always store electronic data in two or more places.

I do that. Right now I leave the photos on either the laptop or the desktop and am looking for a large capacity external hard drive for just picture storage so I can clear the pictures off the computer hard drives and free up some space.

If you are going for 3-4 days, try to stay at one of the Disney Resorts. Its just so nice to be able to hop on a bus or the monorail to get back to your room to rest. Very helpful if you have a small kid. Then you can rest for awhile and head back out again.

You will need the park hopper pass to go from park to park in the same day.

We just went with our 4 and 7 year old. The roller coaster rides are likely off limits to your daughter. Many of them have minimum height requirements of 42/44 inches.

You CANNOT see all of Disney World in one trip unless it lasted a couple of weeks. So don't try. Just hit want you can. Use the ride reservation system when you can so you can avoiding standing in line.

We just bought into a Disney time share called DVC, Disney Vacation Club. I was real suspicious since its a time share but basically we can to any Disney property or 500 other places anytime we want. After six or so trips to Disney its paid for compared to staying at a hotel.

There is a way for non owners to stay at the Disney time shares. If the owners are not going to be able to use their "points" they put them up for sale on a website. Member or nonmembers can buy up those points. If you are interested I'll get the URL from my wifey.

If you do stay at one of the Disney resorts they open some parks earlier for you and some stay open later. To really see the animals at Animal Kingdom you have to get there early in the morning. You really have to take your daughter to the Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom. Its a nice resteraunt at the front of the park. You don't have to go inside the park to get into the cafe though. Its full of animaltronic animals the move and make noise when it thunders. :D:D:D Just watch out for the volcanos. :D:D:D

Its great for the kids. The food is really good and they give you far more than you could/should eat. Had some awesome breakfast pizza and french toast.

After about 4-6 hours us and kids are tired. Especially if it is hot and humid. It helps to be able to get on the bus back to your room. The kids really liked to go to the pool. :D Some of the resorts have awesome pool play areas for the kids. We won't take our kids to the two water parks until they are quite a bit older.

Epcot and Magic Kingdom have fireworks at night. If you can keep her up late enough to see the show they are awesome. We where on the Dumbo ride when the fireworks went off. It was awesome. :D

If you REALLY like food and want to spend some money make reservations at the California Grill on the top of the Contempory Hotel. Its the hotel that the monorail runs through. The food is awesome. Excellent Sushi from a chef names Yoshi. The deserts we had where the best deserts we have ever eaten. They are playing around with some of the Food Science techniques in the California Grill.

The Grill is high end. You don't have to get real dressed up but don't wear flip flops and raggity shorts.:D Our kids had Mickey Mac and Cheese while the other just ate plain old Gold Fish Crackers! :D The other reason to go to the Grill is that it over looks Magic Kingdom and they have a nice observation deck that over looks the lake and park. If you are eat at the resteraunt you can see the fireworks over the Magic Kingdom from the 12/15 th floor of the hotel. Its awesome to see the show kinda at eye level. Not many people see it from that perspective.

You can get your child into a Character lunch/dinner/breakfast. The Characters are also in quiet areas all over the parks but the lines can get long waiting to get to see them. There is a small restaraunt at the Contemporary Hotel called Chef Mickey or some such. For breakfast Mickey pops out for the kids. We could not get the kids up there last trip but will try our next trip.

The baddest make you sick ride is the Tea Cups. After our honey moon trip to Disney, the wife won't rid the Tea Cups with me. There is a new Buzz Light year ride that is really fun in Tomorrow Land. We rode it 3-4 times. :D

Can't wait to go back. 3 months and 3 weeks but who is counting.... :D:D:D

Later,
Dan

Thanks for the tips Dan, I have never been fond of rides like the tea cups as I just don't have the stomach for it anymore. Roller coaster rides are out also since my back surgery. If they have a merry go round that is most likely the ride she will be on anyway. She loves the merry go rounds at the fairs and festivals. She also loves fireworks so if we end up going I am sure she will be up to watch them as she doesn't like going to bed even when we spend a day at the county fair.

I had been hoping to stay at one of the Disney hotels and will price them out and see how things look. I do not want to spend too much money on this as I really could use this money elsewhere but Ava deserves to be treated to something fun once I am better as she has been good to me since I have been hurt (she tries to take care of me if I am hurting:) ).

I want to take Ava to the Animal Kingdom and hopefully she will care about the animals. I took her to the Buffalo zoo last year and all she cared about was the Merry go round:rolleyes: I know I would like to see it and the cafe you mentioned sounds great.

For the most part I think she will be happy at the Magic Kingdom so if we spend two days there and one at the Animal Kingdom it will be fine with me. I have no idea what to expect when I get there so who knows what will happen but as long as Ava is having fun that is all that matters:)

Robert, glad to see you are on the mend. Be careful on your timing, we have this thing in Florida called summer, and after May it is not a fun place to be. End of May, beginning of June is when schools let out also, so all the parks fill up. I would second the idea of staying at a Disney hotel. I never understood the point when I was younger, but seeing the people get off the monorail or bus practicly at the front gate looks so much easier than parking to pay, then getting on the tram, then getting to the gate. The people who work at those parks are there to insure you have a good time, and work very hard to take care of their bosses (the customer).

Thanks, I was hoping for the end of April because of the reasons you mentioned and because I should be all out of my current ordeal. I need to research the hotels more as I am looking at the Disney hotels but I am not sure if they are all connected to the park. I am looking at the cheaper hotels so I am thinking they are further away. I am leaning towards the Disney All-Star Movies resort but I need to look into it further.

On the bright side I have plenty of time to look it over and decide.

If you are on a trip limited by a budget, then figure out what you like to do the most and spend your money doing that and save money elsewhere.

We love seeing the attractions and eating at unique places the most so this is where we spend most of our money. We stay at a Motel 6 right outside Disney World to save about $70 a night compared to an inexpensive room inside Disney World. We don't need to waste money on a room with a pool or a 6 foot TV because we don't spend any time at the motel. We get up and leave as early as possible and eat breakfast where we wish then get to Disney World as it just opens and spend all day there. We eat lunch and dinner there, watch fireworks and by the time we get back to the motel, we just clean up and go to sleep. The next day we go through the same process except that we usually eat dinner one or two nights at Arabian Nights, Medieval Times or the Dixie Stampede as we enjoy their dinner shows.

My Grandson will be 4 in January and we plan on bringing him next October or November. We also will drive there which is about a 10 hour drive and this is the hardest part for a youngster. They will ask you "are we there yet" about a hundred times in anticipation of reaching their ultimate destination. No matter where you go or what you see in Disney World the kids will love it. My grandson will have almost as much fun as I will. :)

Right now I don't know what my budget is so I am trying to get my expenses figured out and go from there. I don't like spending a lot of money on hotels for the same reason as you. What I do like is what some of these guys are talking about as far as not having to drive to Disneyworld every time because some of the hotels either have transportation or are right on the Disneyworld grounds. So it all comes down to how much more the hotels are compared to how much it is worth for me to drive. The more I spend on a hotel the less I have to pay for other things:(

In off-season the outside motels have reduced rates and it only takes a few minutes to drive there and the kids like riding the tram in the parking lot as much as some of the other rides.

The best part is that most of the motels have web sites so you can easily look up the rates for the dates you are going and compare them to the rates at the hotels in Disney World.

A 4 year old will be asleep by the time you get back to the motel so they won't know a $200 a night hotel from a $45 a night motel. Use the money you save to buy her the Winnie the Pooh doll she wants.;)

We were stongly considering going last year and started that thread to get some ideas and recomendations. Over and over again, we were told to be sure to get a hotel that is part of the Park.

Our youngest was six and we did a few test trips with him to see how he'd react. Our fear is that we'll get there and he'll not enjoy himself. He's terrified of the rides. We took him to the fair and he's in absolute terror of all of the rides. We took them to Seaworld with the same results. He had fun, but it wasn't some thing he talked about when we got home. In fact, he's never talked about it since and we're not sure if he'll outgrow this fear or not. He's feerless on his bicycle and loves to go fast on the fourwheeler, but roller coasters, log rides, ferris wheels and just about everything terrifies him.

We took them to Natural Brides Cavern in the same area. They had a climbing tower there that was 40 feet tall, and he was dying to climb it. He made it all the way to the top and loved it. He's still talking about that part of the trip!!!
