The BX-22 has turned 50 hours today and I was actually thinking of changing engine oil, until I decided it was too cold out...... 10 degrees... and the drain pan is among the missing also. Checked the Mobil 1 that the wife picked up for me and it is the wrong weight... she got 10W-30 and I asked for 5W-40.... Guess that it is a trip back to the store for the right item... Can someone tell me the size of the drain plug bolt? Save me a trip under the tractor.... I am almost tempted to wait another couple of months and do everything at once. There is no way that I am going to do the hydrostatic drive unless it is at least warm enough to feel my fingers... I hate this cold weather.. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

You might say that the BX22 is just a pup still. You can let the hours go a bit over 50 and no harm will be done. I don't like cold neither thats why I put in an outdoor wood furance and heat my garage. Put the L3830 in, in the morning& let her warm up for a couple of hours. Sure makes winter work eaiser.

I'm glad to see it's your BX that turned 50 today. As for you, you're the one who said, and I quote, " when I feel like reminiscing, I pick up a bible".. Your'e getting old there, Junkman..

Hey Junkman,

You're just a few hours older than me at about 46. In case you didn't know the Freightliner dealer down in E. Hartford carries Mobil Delvac 1 (the full synthetic 5W-40 elixer of the diesel gods /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif). Since this is the preferred oil /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif for the VW TDI I set up a special deal for the members of the TDIClub with the Freightliner dealer. Just ask for the TDIClub deal on Delvac 1 (you don't have to use the special handshake or anything) and you'll get the special price. Last I heard our discount was for $18.92 a gallon - a fine price on D1. Leave the Mobil 1 for the gas powered engines.

And yes, it's entirely too cold to be doing much wrenching in these parts. Mid-week it's actually supposed to get above freezing! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Yeah, I prefer to only change oil when I can stay naked. I'm happier, and the oil flows out better.

Anyone out there in tractor land change their oil by sucking it out? Local Benz dealer guys claim they all do this now. Makes sense on them because they have that drain-down filter design and have encapsulation covers on the bottom. The DR folks make a nice suction device that's supposed to suck the oil out with one "charge" of the gizmo.

It was great out there in the sunshine at 25 degrees yesterday. Wouldn't want to change oil at that temp though.

I, for one, find it hard to believe that if you're naked, the oil flows out better. I know for a fact that neither I, nor my neighbors would be happier if I were naked when doing this task in my garage.

Anybody else try this technique? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
