I have a ck30hst. I last used it about 3 weeks ago and everything was fine. I decided today to go cut the grass. It had 1/2 a tank and I topped it off in anticipation of an afternoon of work. I hit the switch the glow plug lights and it turns over but will not crank. I have 67 hours on it and never had a problem. Any ideas?

Throttle lever all the way to low idle? Is it spewing any white smoke at all?

I have played with the lever and there is no smoke or anything. It turns over like normal but no start.

Is the emergency fuel shut off knob pulled out?

Probably sound stupid, but where is that?

The CK30 doesn't have a manaul fuel shut-off. It has a "power on" solenoid system that shuts off the fuel when the key is turned off.

The easy check to assure the solenoid is operating properly is to turn the key to the glow position. You should hear a pretty distinctive click come from the engine near the injector pump. If you don't hear the click, the fuel shutoff system has malfunctioned. There are several steps to go through to determine which part of the system malfunctioned.

First, check for the click. Then you move to the next step.

Some CKs have the fuel shutoff and some don't. Mine doesn't either. If it did it would be on the dash in front of your left knee. A red pull knob like an old style choke cable. Even if you don't have the knob you will have a black rubber plug where it could have been about 3/8" diameter.

No white smoke indicates no fuel to engine. That solenoid on the top front of the injection pump is a likely candidate. It should click when you turn the key to the "on" position. Then click to the off position when you shut the key off.

With 60 hrs on the machine, he never used the shut-off, assumed it was the newer "power-on" fuel system.

I'm going to sound like the most uneducated guy here, but where exactly is the pump? I need to double check and make sure this solenoid is connected. I bought new for the warranty and to not have to deal with many issues. With the exception of keeping the levels topped and air cleaners clean I have not had to do anything to this machine. Is this a relatively easy fix? There is no way to load this thing on my trailer to haul to the shop with the loader and box blade down.

The injector pump is at the front of the engine, on the right side. You will see the 3 fuel lines coming out of the top of it.

You don't need to do anything with the injection pump. I only mentioned it as a reference for where the "click" would come from. The fuel shutoff solenoid is near the injection pump.

All you want to do for now is listen for the click as you turn the key on and off so we can tell whether the fuel solenoid is energizing. Once we determine that, we can narrow down why you aren't getting fuel.

Call the dealer first thing Monday. Someone may be willing to walk you through a checklist. Otherwise, the repair will be free but you may have to pay for the mechanic's travel time.

One last thing before you call. Most manuals have a troubleshooting section. Use that as a checklist and go through it item by item.

Just to be sure whether the solenoid is working, it would be helpful to know what year the tractor is to be sure we are talking about the right shut-off system. There are 2 different types of shut-off systems on the CK tractors.

I bought the tractor November of '06 so I'm assuming it is an '06 or '07.

Just went out and the only click I'm hearing is the ignition switch itself and a faint glow plug.

OK, couple of questions,

Check for the manual fuel shut-off. If you have the old "power-off" system, the manual shutoff would be on the cowl, under the key switch. It would look like a choke knob that you pull.

If you don't have the manual fuel shut-off knob, it is the power on system, and you should here the click when you turn the key on and off.

Only switch is for the emergency flashers. I must have the newer system. I did notice an anodized looking switch directly above the fuel filter that says "on and off" but it is on.

That is your fuel shut-off and air bleed.

Do you hear the "click" when you turn the key??

Nothing other than the ignition itself clicking. I am missing the "throbbing" type sound I usually have when the glow plug is first lit.

Maybe we are overthinking this a little bit.

It worked the last time you used it.
You shut it down just by turning off the ignition.

Your last message indicated that you did not "hear" anything when you turned the key. Did you get the indicator lights for the glow plugs? If so, now log were they on?

From your first message I would wonder if the glow plugs actually activated. You turning with no "firing" may indicate no glow plug activation. Have you checked the fuses?
