I suck: Mice!

I went camping at a nearby State Park. Got back to the trailer, parked my truck, changed my clothes and when I opened the camper door, I saw a chipmunk running down the frame rail in the wheel well. Opened the hood and found an acorn with the end chewed off and a pile of crumbs on a wire harness connector. I kept the hood opened during daylight hours the rest of my stay. I hate chipmunks.

2" pvc tee and a cap. Have three two foot pieces of pipe put in each opening if tee. Vertical one fill with rat poison and put the cap on. Tie it to something to hold it up straight. Only rats can get in to the poison. You can put these things all over. That's what the big company does around our chicken houses.

Everyone says not to cover your tractor so what did I do last winter? I covered my tractor. (We don't live on the property and there are no outbuildings). So what happened when I uncovered it? $1600 worth of mouse damage to a wire and fuel lines. So lesson learned. However, it still sits on the property as I need to mow. When the dealership brought it back, they parked it where they had left the brush hog and killed a large rat. I mean this rat could have been dinner for 2 it was so big! So until Nov when I will put it in RV storage place, how do I keep mice off of it? Tractor guy said to sprinkle moth balls around the perimeter. I'm going to put rat poison out also. Any other ideas? It's sitting in the grass on a hill next to some trees.

A vote for Bait Blocks here. I've tried moth balls and store bought repellant. Neither worked for me but bait blocks do, you just have to be vigilant about putting them out about twice per year.

I've been told to get cats but I love our song birds and our neighbor is a pheasants forever member. After discussing outdoor cats with him, I decided against it.

That's what I ended up doing. Hated to do it but they are being eaten so they are working. No local pets in the area. I feel bad about any birds though that eat the carcass.

When I was a kid we had a chicken house that was a converted corn crib that had open windows. We were missing chickens nightly and one morning my dad went in the chicken house and found a great horned owl that got stuck in the chicken house. He must have had more guts than brains at that time as he grabbed it and the owl's claws went all the way around his wrist. My brother was with him and was able to get the owl off of my dad but they held on to it. We put it in an area of our barn and had it there for a while to show some other people and then let it go. I hear a lot of them hooting around here.
I have noticed that we don't have as many barn cats around, but I don't miss them.
