Sorry :D I work at a company known for making microprocessors that are in most PC's. EVERYONE here has laptops. If there is an issue, you turn it in to an IT office, they swap software to the new system, and send you on your way. Of cours, it is a company of 80,000 or so...

Hah! And I work at a company known for selling those microprocessors and other microprocessors that are in all PC's. Most everyone here has laptops and desktops AND Smartphones. If there is an issue, you discard it and get another one. Hopefully the software has backed itself up somewhere. :) :)

Well My computer I will admit cost me just under 2 grand but that has some photography programs installed and Office 2007 and a lot of memory but thats the way I built it. My docking station cost only $100 bucks and my Dell 22' monitor was $300 bucks. I leave my monitor in my office and my docking station and my lap top fit in my Brief. I can tell you The computer my wife has cost me exactly the same amount of money and my lap top has more memory. But that same system a year later is at least $300 cheaper. The bottom line is I can run my facility from anywhere with my lap top and my blackberry All I need is Internet access. I can also log into any PC that has our terminal server on it. We have so many employees that work all over the country that this is the only way to work

That explains why laptops work well for your situation.

I work at a place that is open 24/7/365. Two shifts on many PCs and sometimes 3. Laptops there would be a bad decision.

Also, many people work on PCs that are also performing tasks in the background. That way, they can monitor the tasks while they work. If they had laptops we would have to purchase a seperate computer to do the tasks. We could easily go from 300 computers to 500 computers if we decided to go to portables. Not practicle at all for us.

IBM P70 Project

IBM P70

Nope, I bought and still have the P70. The Convertible was even before that but much smaller. Two 720KB drives and an LCD screen.

I'm impressed. Wikipedia has an entry, IBM 5100 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia but no picture, this website has a picture, IBM 5100 computer The PC weighed 55 pounds.:D

Here is the Convertible, IBM Convertible computer, it got me through the end of school. :D Still have it as well. Every PC I have bought I still have including an Apple II+.

I'll have an old PC archive some day. :)

Later,
Dan
