The Dang tractor takes for ever to start, but I can go up the slight slop in HI gear now. I've now got 14 hrs on the CK20s HST and in the past, the motor stall before I made it more then 15 ft with the Hoe attached. And in the past, it was 15 ft with a running start too. I'm still using the running start, but it's progress. :D

The way the tractor is starting to feel, I think after 25 or more hours, I'll be able to start on the slope in HI gear.

Now if I can only get this sucker to start easier, especially without so much smoke. :(

Surprised you say hard to start. anything over 50 degrees and I can start my Lk with 10 seconds glow plug and first crank. A little puff of smoke but not much to speak of. My Deere dozer starts first flick with no glow plugs. I don't think you should be having any issues, particularly not this time of year.

Crabjoe,

You shouldn't be having any trouble starting your tractor, and there should only be a small puff of smoke. What does Rick say?

I haven't spoken with him yet. I was planning on talking to him when I get to his place in June.

The smoke does clear up once the idle settles down, but it takes 5 to 10 seconds for it to settle. Also I have to crank the sucker for a bit to start, even after the glow plug cycle. I would think I wouldn't even need to use the glow plugs now, but without the cycle, it doesn't want to start at all.

I think the reason for the smoke is that it takes to many cranks for it to start. While hit's cranking, I'm guessing more and more fuel is getting getting to the motor without it burning.

Try varying the glow plug on-time. On mine, when it's warmish, it just wants a second or two of glow plug to work best. When air temperature has been very warm (>80), no glow plug is best. When it's cold, it works best by waiting until the glow plugs timeout. But, I've never had to crank on it. I bump the throttle a little bit, usually ends up around 1500 or so at start up. One short puff of smoke (sometimes none), is all.

Maybe it's a condition of the S model???

I'm thinking whatever is causing me problem is what is causing the cold start issue.

BTW, I've never had a start where there was no smoke and when it does start, the idle bounces from 700 to 1100 rpms as if it wants to stall, but when the smoke clears, the motor hums right at 1200rpms.

I don't know how long it takes these engines to 'seat in', but on my VW diesel, it takes forever. Based on folks who have done compression testing every 10K miles, the compression continues to rise until about 70K miles on the car. So it takes a while. :) So I suspect after 15 hrs the process has hardly started.

try adding power service diesel fuel additive the white bottle

my ck30 surprised me by being slightly hard to start but when i added some power service, it improved right away

I don't have a CK, but do have an LK3054xs;it has had a starting problem from day one. The glo-plug system on the LK has no timer incorporated, so I use them for a 10-15 second cycle on initial start-up regardless of temp.If the ambiant temp is under 70*F, the engine will belch smoke and run very roughly for 10 to 15 seconds after start up.I've learned to immediately turn the start switch back to preheat and hold it until the engine runs smoothly.Any temp under about 40* requires the hose heater;lf not, you'd swear the thing was coming apart:eek: I realize the LK's and CK's use different engines, both size and design, but it appears to me Kioti's are hard starters, dispite what my dealer says:rolleyes:

My CK30 is a bit strange in starting. No matter what temp, (0-80dF) I turn key, allow glow plugs to time out then try to start. It either starts immediatly, and runs smooth with little to no smoke, or it will not start at all no matter how much I crank it. So if it does not start immediatly, I reset and restart the glow plug timer, and try again. So mine is either immediate start or no start!!?? Clock shows I have 280hrs on mine, if that matters.
