I bought my 2004 Silverado X-cab New and still love the truck! It still looks new.
I am at 105K miles and the gauges on the instrument panel are failing.
Googling I found out there was a silent recall after a lawsuit.
It seems GM was supplied with inferior "step motors" for the gauges from 03-06.
BUT, the recall only covers 7 years or 70k miles. After that they cover the gauges but not the labor.
After googling I found replacement new type step motor set (6) with new light bulbs on ebay for $16.00 and u-tube instructions on how to replace the motors.
It is fairly simple to replace them if you can solder.
So if you are cussing that bad gauge there is a repair!

Have you asked if GM will give you the gauges and let you install them?

Did this on my 2003 GMC 1500 like 2 years ago. Bought the kit from ebay with the upgraded and improved stepper motors for like $13 (again 2 years ago so price likely cheaper then) and spent 2 - to 2.5 hours doing it on a wintery cold winter day. End up doing it at the kitchen table in the comfort of the heated house and it was a fun way to spend an otherwise cold afternoon.

I could easily do the next one much faster and will likely get that opportunity with a 2005 Silverado 2500hd truck I picked up not too long ago for relatively cheap. Hoping it will be a fun inexpensive project truck decently suited for the occasional heavy hauling I might do.

Back in 2009 my 2004 Yukon Denali the step motors went on the gauges, got it replaced under that TSB. Called a Chevy/ GMC dealer they told me they would not fix it, but maybe GMC would help and transferred me to them. I explained the problem to them. He stated that the TSB would cover it and maybe since it was a Chevy dealer they didn’t wan to touch a GMC. I explained that they have a Chevy dealership on one side of the lot and a GMC dealership 200 feet away. He was not happy to hear that and called the dealership. Needles to say after to speaking to the guy from GMC they were more than happy to fix it for free.

I doubt they would do that and I think they probably send the panel out to be repaired. Meaning keep the vehicle for days!
Probably no ASE class for soldering!

They all fail on those models. I had the dealer replace mine a couple of years ago. Cost a couple hundred, can't remember exactly how much but my truck has been good enough it was worth it. GMC 2500HD Duramax. Almost 200K now and would not trade it for a new one just like it.

Went through this with my '93 GMC, The dealership would record the mileage, order a re-manufactured panel to replace the defective one. This happened at least a half dozen times until I decided it just wasn't worth the hassle. Apparently, GM didn't learn their lesson 15 years ago. I no longer own GM products and have no desire for one

I sold my 1989 Silverado with 240k miles on it still running great!
Those gauges still worked OK.
Why did I sell it? I wanted an X-Cab!
