Installed the radio. I was very pleased on how it turned out. Also had to open up the roof to run the mic for the bluetooth phone thing. Not real sure on the factory speakers just yet. Not to thrilled about them. Dont know if there is anything that can be done. Would be nice to mount some more speakers but where you would I dont know.

I want to do the same thing, i'm going to make a pair of boxes to put up against the glass in front of the pedals and get some high end speakers.

I would like to see what you do. Its roomy in the cab...but really no places to put anything. I was thinking maybe behind the seat on each side..but the parking brake is in the way on the one side.

I'm out of town for a while so it will be a bit before I get them done but I'll post pics as soon as I can get it finished.

Good job on your radio. I decided to have the dealer install mine as I've never liked dealing with electronics. My speakers leave room for improvement too, but I'll probably stick with stock.

I completed a radio installation myself about 2 1/2 mos. ago. It turned out to be quite a project. I finally settled on a radio with a USB and SD slot, w/o cd player as it weighs only 1 1/2 lbs. vs. about 4 lbs. (and I couldn't see a playing a cd while on rough terrain).
I did replace the anemic speakers provided by LS with a pair of Kenwood 3 way speakers (nice for a 4 inch speaker). The speaker install was a b**ch.
After all was said and done it was well worth the aggravation. So nice to have to music.

My install wasnt that bad. I raised the roof and was pretty east. The speakers are bad. Dont know whos they are but they not to good. That is on my list to change. I wanted to add two more but I havent figured out how just yet. So it sounded better with a better speaker?

Oh yah! I found that after installing the radio, the stock speakers could take no volume (that would be required while operating) or even the slightest increase in bass without the speakers rattling. So, for about $50 on Amazon.com I purchased some Kenwood 3 way replacements. The difference is huge.
My installation cost was just over $100 that included an AM/FM radio with an SD slot and a USB slot, and the replacement speakers. So far I've "copied" 7 or 8 CDs to a 2 GB USB stick and there's probably room for about 25. That's a few hours of "your own music" when the radio reception is questionable. P1010920.JPGP1010919.JPG

I agree. All I have is trebile....bass rattled I figured getting better speakers would help. I have read reviews on 4" speaker and they seem to not handle bass very well. Thats why I wanted to change them and add two more. Just seems to be pressed for space.

It is a bit tight for much of anything extra in the cabs. Given the issue of 4" speakers and bass, I considered going with 5 1/4" but the precuts in the overhead just didn't seem to be modifiable enough to accommodate them. So I decided to stick with 4" but go with 3 way speakers - they can't carry the bass of even a 5 1/4 but they sound much better than 4" 2 ways.

Glad you mentioned the three ways tho...cause I would have gotten 2 ways and probably not been much better.

Think I have found a way to mount some marine speakers in the upper rear corners. Im gonna give it some thought and try it out. Plus raplace the factory ones.

Good luck with the add-ons. I'd be interested to see how you make out with them.

Installed a JVC deck the other day. It worked good for about 15 minutes and then started flashing "PROTECT" Book says short in speaker wire. Checked all the wiring and found no issues. Reset it and in 15 minutes it did it again. Took the deck out and put it in my old explorer sitting in my back lot. It ran all day no issues. I wonder if the factory speakers have too much impedance? Traced all wiring and it looks fine. Any ideas???

Hi, I was wondering if you ran the power off of the battery or used one of the plugs in the tractor? The reason I ask is that I looked at my fuse box and noticed it is a blue/white wire in the fuse labeled stereo. however the only plug by the radio is green and green/white Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Thanks in advance

I opened up the roof which is not hard to do. Then I was able to follow speaker wires and knew what went where. I cut the factory plug they had and use my own connectors. Once I knew which ones was speaker wires I used a test light to locate the constant hot and the key on hot. Once I found those I used the diagram for the radio and wired it up. I cant remember what the colors were on the hots. Hope that helps. It was really simple to do. I am no radio person at all.

Thanks gphil, that does help a lot. I think I was reading too much into it and complicating it with too much thought.
