I have \"BUSTICATED\" my tractor

I was bush hogging and noticed one side was a bunch lower than the other. A quick eyeball showed that I have problems. I know my terminology probably isn't right but it looks like I have broken the bottom part of the side link and a link from the adjustable sway bar.

Is this something that TSC would carry?

Any ideas what may have caused this and how to avoid it again?

BTW, I was using my Case 485 and a Rhino 6' rotary cutter.

thanks guys,

Keith

I think your going to have to go to a regular tractor place for that pin, but you should be able to have the eyelet on the lower link welded.

to me, it looks like there was a lot of side stress that caused the metal to crack. Could the mower hit a stump as you were turning or some other event that would cause some sidewards movement of the implement??????

I put 1/4" bolts with locknuts in place of the hairpin clips (hitchpin).

The way I see your break, is a clip slipped out part way, broke the tip off that pin through the clevis, which left just half the clevis holding, and the subsequent twisting load caused a break in that half. Appears the clevis is turned 180° in the picture from failure position, given the 'dirt' location and the break.

Just a guess, as I sure don't know. But, seems it may have started with a hairpin clip getting pulled out.

Try Bates for used IH parts. www.batescorp.com They specialize in such and I used them when I owned an IH444.

I think I agree with beenthere. It makes perfect sense. junkman, I didn't hit anything (that I remember)
TSC did not have either part. I will try the company suggested by texbaylea.

Thanks for all the help/comments!

Re: I have \"BUSTICATED\" my tractor

We only broke the pin, twice on the 585 and the 584 we use. It seems to be a weak spot on those models.
