Traction I got stuck

Gotta have respect for the buddy that gets stuck trying to help ya out!!! QUOTE]Yeah, I had a buddy once that was out in the middle of a quagmire with his truck on a high spot (we were on a jobsite in Venezuela). He was waving for me to come over. There was deep water and muddy ruts from large equipment everywhere but I had mud grip tires on my truck and I knew he just had street tires on his, so I back up and get a 40 MPH running start at the mud and got about half way and sunk to the axles. I slogged thru mud about knee deep to get to him and asked him what he wanted. HE SAID, I JUST WANTED TO SEE IF YOU COULD MAKE IT THRU THE MUD!!! I asked him how he got where he was without getting stuck and he said "Heck I am stuck" What are buddies for if they cant pull one over on you now and then. We both had to get a dozer to pull our trucks back across the mud to high ground. It took me about an hour to hose all the red mud off the outside of the truck, from under it and inside it.

Most people with any time on a tractor have a "got stuck" story. I do of course. Using a JD4700 with FEL and 6 ft bush hog I got into a swamp I had mowed through many times but there was this one section ... you can guess the rest. In right up to the axle housings. I was able to lift the front end with the bucket and place old fence posts under the wheels but not the rear wheels. Lifting the hog just sank the rear tires deeper. Finally inched it out about 6" per pull by curling the bucket back toward the tractor. The bucket pulled me out. That is with 17" wide tires on the rear ...

One wonders how people ever got by in the days when they only had 2WD tractors!

I am very surprised that the truck and winch were able to get you out back in 2011 -- just realized this is an old story being publicized by TractorByNet.
Been there done that! Spent two days once getting my 880 David Brown back out of a "Little" brook I tried to cross too early in the spring. Used a set of chain falls cabled back to the first large tree and ended up shoveling all the dirt and muck from under the rear end and oil pan. You do learn to stay out of those places.

Not stuck, just motion impaired! Lowered the boom, that raised the front wheel out of the silt. Extended the boom while backing up, Good to go!
