I am building a fence....

.... with high tensile wire. Do I need any spcific type of wood to use as twitch sticks for tensioning the corner braces?

No you can actually do it with any kind of wood but hard woods are better. The soft woods tend to rot out quicker and lead to loosening of the tensioning wire. I've also used the pipe from an old cox fence. I cut it up into about 2' lengths and it worked great and no worry about it rotting out or breaking when you're twisting it.

I've found I like it better without sticks at all. I usually make a loop that goes around the outside of both posts. I nail it at the top of one post and then use the fencing pliers and a hammer to push it down near the bottom of the other post. Once stapled there, I can tension it by pulling the wires between the posts together in 1 to 4 places, depending on what is required, to get the proper tension on the wire.

Nothing wrong with sticks, but this keeps from having to have wire twisting, etc.

That's interesting. I've never though of doing it like that. Just goes to show what I've always said is correct, "There's as many ways to build fence as there are people who do it".
