hyraulics question

   / hyraulics question #51
Here's my guess. I don't think it was crud. I think the flow priority valve's spring fatigued.

I suppose that would do it, too. I suspect these flow dividers to be very
reliable, but a separate charge pump on the inlet of the HST to be more
so. My B21 has a small separate trochoid charge pump, which I replaced
due to some internal scoring.

Looking forward to seeing more pix, Matt.

Cavitation itself is caused when the pressure on a fluid is low enough to be beneath the vapor pressure of that fluid at that temperature. It is different than foaming and I don't know the relation between the two. If any.

Note that once you have a gas mixed with your hyd fluid due to boiling
(cavitation), compressing the fluid compresses the gas, which adds
a LOT of heat. I don't know how long the boiled fluid stays in the
gaseous state after it passes the inlet (negative pressure) zone.

Foaming, I would expect from air-entrainment that would most likely
occur due to a leak in the suction side of the pump's plumbing. Positive
charge pressure would keep that from happening, of course. It does
happen with implement pumps that get inlet plumbing leaks.
