I have a Huskee hydrostatic drive lawn mower, the pump heats up when I'm mowing and I have to stop and let it run sitting still to cool the pump down enough to continue mowing. Would putting a heavier grade hydrolic oil in the pump correct this problem?

Unlikely. If it is worn out, heavier fluid may reduce leakage slightly, and thus reduce heating, but it would only be a marginal gain. Most likely one of the relief valves is stuck partially open, due to dirt or damage of some sort. May be an easy fix if you know what and where to go.

Something doesn't sound right or good about this. How old is your tractor? How long do you let it set running to cool down before it will go again? I wonder if it is getting air in the system and the oil is foaming and letting it set lets the oil settle down/air out. does it sound different leading up to not moving? Does it just continually slow down until it won't move or just stop moving somewhat abruptly?

Saw your other post and thought this would be a better place to respond.

Do you know what style of hydrostatic this is? If it is one of the Eaton ball check styles and Is this only used for mowing lawns? If yes using something like 15W-50 will help some for awhile. These are considered throw away units and the heavier oil will alow operating for a longer period of time.

If the hydrostatic is one of the piston style like used on Kubota BX then no you should not use a heavier oil.

Good luck

As I recall the Huskee uses the low end hydrostatic transmission. depending on the age of the tractor, it is possible that it is time to rebuild it. How old is this tractor? Look on the transmission housing to see which model number it is. They can be rebuilt or replaced for not too much money if you are mechanically inclined.
