The day I was at the dealer to actually buy a tractor the sales rep. happened to be at the dealer also.I got to talk with him a few minutes and discussed this very issue as I wanted a hydro . He asked what I would be using the tractor for,{Tillage work,hauling a few logs out of the woods etc. etc.}he said I would be unhappy with a hydrostat , and said to rethink what I wanted and gave another suggestion.I bought a tractor with a hydraulic shuttle shift and creeper gears and I am very happy with it.I think it all depends on what you will be using the tractor for , depends on what is right for you.I think if one were to really research this issue there maybe a little more to it than just a little drawbar HP loss if one was really working a tractor hard for long periods of time,fuel costs, service intervals and costs,etc., as for us hobby type tractor owners it probably doesn't matter all that much. If you are a farmer trying to make a living every penny counts and is accounted for.I have a hydro on my lawntractor and love it.You have had the gst so I imagine you have your heart set on a hydro as I did.
